Another solid road performance to remain strong away from Madison Square Garden
Detroit, MI- The New York Rangers headed for an Original Six matchup as they traveled to Detroit, Michigan, to face the Red Wings. Another club celebrating a Centennial Season, the Rangers played a full 60 minute game and once again trounced the Wings in their own building by a final score of four to one.
Finally, a Power Play Goal
The Rangers went on the power play and finally got one with the extra man. Artemi Panarin brought the puck up the ice and entered the Red Wings’ Zone. made a quick pass to Mika Zibanejad going down the near boards, then made a cross ice pass ot Will Cuylle and inside the far faceoff circle, Cuylle snaps a wrist shot to beat Cam Talbot at 6:46 of the first period.
Detroit ties it up
The Red Wings were cycling inside the Rangers’ zone and found a way to tie the game up. Andrew Copp rimmed the puck around the boards to the back of the net. Skating toward the puck was Mason Appleton, who made a quick pass to J.T. Compher just near the post at the near side and flipped it in at 11:06 of the first period.
Laba does it on home soil
The Rangers retook the lead when Panarin had the puck along the near boards. He saw Alexis Lafreniere at the far post, received the puck, and then found Noah Laba in front to stuff it in. The Northville, Michigan native got his third of the season at 4:52 of the second period.
Panarin finally gets one
After a long drought of not scoring, Artemi Panarin finally got one for his fifth of the season. Taylor Raddysh at the far boards stopped the puck and chipped it to Zibanejad. Skates toward the net, makes a pass to Panarin at the near post, and with a hard shot beats Cam Talbot at 7:29 of the third period.
Lafreniere also breaks his jinx
58 seconds later, the Rangers score another one. After the shot attempt at Jonathan Quick was missed, the Rangers picked up the puck for a quick transition. Conor Sheary sends the puck out as he uses the near boards to lead Lafreniere into a scoring chance. A solid bounce right on Lafreniere’s stick, skated to the net, then used his hands for a quick shot and scored at 8:27 of the third period.
Another big road win
So far, the Rangers have been successful on the road. With only one loss and one overtime loss, they have picked up seven wins for 15 points away from Madison Square Garden. Jonathan Quick made 32 saves out of 33 shots on goal as he continues to be strong in Detroit.
“Yeah, I thought we competed really hard. Detroit’s a good team. They have a real quick transition game; they play with a lot of pace. I thought we defended hard. Our power play scores, obviously, I thought that was a big aspect of helping our top guys, even in their five-on-five play. We’ve talked about that for several weeks now, and just the correlation when they can feel it on the power play; I think it carries over to the five-on-five play.
I thought those guys had a strong game for us. Obviously, Panarin scoring is a huge jump for him, huge jump for the group as well. For sure it is. Our best players are our best players, and I think that’s an important element of the game tonight. These guys, they care a lot. I’ve been saying that for a while now. They care a lot, and it hasn’t been from a lack of effort that we haven’t generated the offense from a goal-scoring standpoint. I think they’re very capable, and they showed that tonight,” said Mike Sullivan
The Rangers quickly head back to Madison Square Garden for a Saturday night game against the rival New York Islanders.
