With new faces joining the Jets for their week 10 matchup
Florham Park, NJ- The New York Jets are getting ready for their return to action after their bye in Week 9. Coming to MetLife Stadium are the Cleveland Browns, and at the moment, their offense is not where it should be, but they have a very tough defense that can be very stingy. But there will be new faces on the Jets as they get ready for this Sunday.
Saying Goodbye to Quinnen and Sauce
It’s always a difficult time when you have to say goodbye to two players who meant a lot to your team, either within their first six years or their first four years. But seeing Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner get traded to their new teams and acquiring a lot of first-round picks in draft capital for the next two years is going to be a big moment for the Glenn/Mougey era.
“Yeah, I don’t think there’s any doubt that, right now, you guys are better with Quinn and Sauce than without. To me, I always hit things head-on, and obviously, when you have two guys like that who end up leaving your team, you don’t want to make too much of a deal about it because the players know that this is a league of change.
Just like I just talked about, and that’s as far as it went. And listen, we won a game last week with Sauce not there, you know, and listen, we know how good a player he is. We know how good a player Quinn is. But man, we are moving forward. You know, we have a good amount of draft capital that we’re looking forward to, and when that time comes, we’ll handle that,” said Aaron Glenn
Discussing the new players
When Aaron Glenn met the media during the week, he was asked about the moves that were made by General Manager Daren Mougey and what type of impact they can have with the team in their first game when they brought over Adoni Mitchel from Indianapolis, Mazi Smith from the Cowboys.
“So, it was good to get those guys into the team meeting, let those guys see exactly how we try to operate when it comes to that, with everybody in totality, to hear me sit up there and talk. I’m looking forward to getting those guys and getting them, you know, involved in what we’re trying to do. Listen, I don’t know how long it’s going to take to get those guys actually ready to go play, but we’re going to do everything we can to get them up to speed.
Big, fast, physical. Man, just watch him out there and walk through. He looks like a true X receiver that you put a bio information out there. He can go out there, and he can look to win. Again, good speed can stretch the defense. So, there are several things. If you watch him in college, man, he did some really good things, you know, so hopefully we’d be able to get that, you know, out of him here, because that’ll give us another weapon to have,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn
AD Mitchell and John Metchie are ready to go
The new players joining the Jets in their respective trades from their last teams are ready to go to their new home. It’s always tough to learn about a trade when you are leaving from the place you were drafted from and making the move to a new team and a new city, but it sounds like these players are ready to go. But did they hear about it on social media?
“I definitely will say I’m happy I didn’t find out through social media. I was able to have my conversation with the GM, the head coach, a ton of respect to them, and I was able to say my goodbyes to everybody. It was a very emotional day, but like I said, I’m excited to be here, and now I’m where my feet are,” said Adoni Mitchel
“I mean, of course, it’s the second time this season, right? So it wasn’t like just opportunistic, you know, I’m more of an optimist, so it was just more opportunistic. What’s it been like getting up to speed since you got here? Not as bad as the last transition, just because it’s like I think similar playbooks that I’ve been in, so a lot of words are familiar, so it’s not as hard as going to a system where they use completely different verbiage and everything means nothing to you. So this one has been a little bit easier,” said John Metchie
Cleveland’s Defense is a concern
While the Browns’ offense hasn’t been successful this season, and they are currently 2-7, their defense continues to put up big stops to keep them in the game. Especially Myles Garrett, who leads his team with 10 sacks. And another big defender in Corner Denzel Ward, these men are going to give the Jets offense some issues.
“This is a team that you just take a look at their defense. They’re playing at a very high level, and they have some key guys in key positions that are playing at a high level for them. Obviously, Garrett he’s a really good player. The D. B. Ward, a damn good player. And this is a sound, sound football team that plays very aggressively. So we have to be on our P’s and Q’s when it comes to how we operate on offense, when it comes to how we operate off, when it comes to their offense.”
How to stop the Browns’ Offense
The Browns’ offense is currently a work in progress with a new quarterback running the team. It looks like the team wants to make sure Dillon Gabriel understands what the team wants him to do with the ball and be comfortable in the pocket. But the Jets need to make sure they can get to the quarterback and not give him any chance to make a play.
“I know exactly what the coach is trying to do. He’s trying to do a good job of making sure that he brings this quarterback along slowly. They’re leaning on the run game, and they’re obviously giving him a chance to get the ball out quick. Now, we know a lot about this player, the quarterback Gabriel. I mean, he’s been a captain every place he’s been when it comes to college, and he’s done a good job for those guys.
And that’s not to understand exactly what he’s going through, trying to get his team offensively on the right track. Somewhat similar to us. And I know this coach is going to work his ass off to make sure he gets it there. So we’re looking forward to the competition. This game is our total focus; we’re on this game. And for the most part, the guys are upbeat, ready to go, just like they’ve always been each week, and we’re looking forward to playing this team. So we look forward to getting the win.
