Analysis- The Rookie Right Tackle handled one of the best pass rushers in the NFL
Spectacular First Game
The Rookie Right Tackle from Missouri was spectacular in his first game in the NFL against one of the most feared pass rushers, T.J. Watt. His positioning was spectacular; he never committed a penalty. He helped keep Justin Fields upright on his throwing hand side.
“He was going against a player that we all know, that’s one of the top players in this league…for him to hold his ground, for him to have the one-on-one situations, for him to be as aggressive, as physical with the player really speaks for itself,” said Aaron Glenn.
T.J. Watt looked frustrated
When you have a prolific pass rusher in T.J. Watt who can sidestep a Right Tackle and get to the quarterback, you know you have a long day fighting against him. He is that good in pass rushing and on any down, but when Membou was able to stop him and deliver more than one pancake block, you knew it would be a long day.
Footwork is spectacular
Once the ball was snapped, Membou kept his feet moving, positioned himself to use his power to keep Watt away from Fields. When the pocket started to collapse, Membou still did a great job stopping any type of rush that came.
Justin’s Fields liked what he saw from Membou
Membou’s next big challenge is the Bills
Membou’s next challenge will be the Buffalo Bills. His first AFC East Division matchup. Division games have more at stake on the schedule. It’s time for him to continue his trajectory at the New York Jets.
