QUEENS, N.Y. – In a stunning turn of events, Fairleigh Dickinson University rallied from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against St. John’s University on Wednesday night at Belson Stadium, demonstrating remarkable resilience in the face of early adversity.
Vallecillo’s Promising Start
Sophomore forward Jaylen Vallecillo seemed poised to lead St. John’s to victory, scoring two first-half goals that appeared to put the Red Storm firmly in control. Her first strike came in the 44th minute off a precisely executed free kick, with her second goal arriving just eight minutes into the second half.

FDU’s Remarkable Comeback
However, the Knights refused to surrender. In the 64th minute, FDU pulled one goal back with a team effort, setting the stage for a dramatic equalizer. Maria Barrero completed the comeback in the 67th minute, scoring with assists from Marina Burzaco and Katia Cardaba.

Coach’s Perspective
St. John’s head coach Ian Stone acknowledged his team’s defensive vulnerabilities: “A little bit frustrated now for obviously being two nothing up and then conceding two goals because I think we’re better than that. There’s the ups and downs of a young team. Like maybe we’re two nothing up and we think the game’s won, which it’s definitely not.”

The match ended 2-2, with both teams recording 10 shots. St. John’s maintained slight advantages in shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (4-3), while FDU showed tremendous fighting spirit to earn the draw.
