The defending NBA Champions and NBA Emirates Cup Champions, the New York Knicks, are opening their 2026-27 season at Madison Square Garden as they take on a retooled Philadelphia 76ers team that has LeBron James joining Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey on Tuesday, October 20th, and will go on the road on Friday, October 23rd at TD Bank Gardens, and will once again be a part of a five game slate on Christmas day facing the San Antonio Spurs.
Banner-raising night
The Knicks will open their home schedule against the Sixers at Madison Square Garden as the majority of their roster will watch multiple banners being raised to the rafters of that iconic roof, adding an Eastern Conference Championship, their first NBA Emirates Cup Championship, and their third NBA Championship Banner in 53 years. The Sixers, who were swept by the Knicks in the second round of last season’s playoffs, will be on the court or inside their locker room watching those banners get raised to the rafters as the entire country will watch it on NBC and streaming on Peacock for a triple-header.
First road game of the season
The Knicks’ next game and their first road game of the season is a trip up north to face the Boston Celtics. This time they will battle a fully healthy Jason Tatum with their former center Mitchell Robinson, as he moved on from the Knicks and signed with Boston in Free Agency. Mitch will receive his championship ring when the Knicks visit him and will get plenty of smiles seeing his former teammates, but when the whistle blows, the game will get serious. This will also be the first doubleheader matchup on Amazon Prime.
Christmas Day celebration
Once again, the Knicks will be home at Madison Square Garden as they will be the first game of five that will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC as they will face the San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day. Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, Stefon Castle, Devin Vassell, and the entire team, who were runners-up to the Knicks in both the NBA Emirates Cup Final and the NBA Finals, will return to the scene of the crime when they lost a 29-point lead in Game 4 and saw O.G. Anunoby running to the hoop and tipping in the ball back in for the go ahead score after Jalen Brunson hit the rim from behind the three-point line, and a big strip by Josh Hart to secure the victory and headed back down to San Antonio to win the championship.
The rest of the 2026-27 schedule will be published at a later date, but for now, the title defense is on and ready to go.
