WEST POINT, NY — Army West Point men’s rugby is charging into the 2026 Spring season with a powerful new addition: Danny Breda joins the Brothers XV as assistant coach, bringing championship pedigree, leadership, and a relentless work ethic to the Black Knights’ sideline.
A Proven Winner Joins the Ranks
Breda’s coaching journey is defined by building programs from the ground up and leading teams to new heights. Most recently, he served as head coach at Trine University in Indiana, where he founded the Thunder’s rugby program and elevated them from NCR to CRAA D1AA status. His impact was immediate—raising the competitive bar and establishing a winning culture.
Breda’s resume also includes:
- Assistant coach with the Midwest Thunderbirds and Chicago Hounds (MLR Academy)
- Head coach of Old Glory DC’s U18 boys academy
- Head coach at Loyola Blakefield High School (back-to-back Maryland state championships)
- Assistant coach at Gonzaga College High School (2018 national title)
- Assistant and seven’s head coach at Mount St. Mary’s (CRAA D1AA transition, 9-2 record, Philadelphia Cup win)
Leadership and Character
Head coach Matt Sherman is thrilled:
“Coach Breda is a leader of high character whose experience and competence will immediately elevate our program. Just as important, he genuinely believes in the mission of West Point and lives those values every day.”
