WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men’s basketball (7-9, 1-2) endured a gut-wrenching 84-76 overtime loss to Loyola Maryland (5-11, 1-2) on Wednesday night at Christl Arena, snapping their unbeaten OT streak and marking their first defeat to the Greyhounds since 2023. The series now stands tied at 13-13.
Five Black Knights Hit Double Figures in Gritty Battle
Despite the outcome, Army put five players in double digits. Ryan Curry was electric again, pouring in 19 points (7-17 FG, 5-11 3PT), while Kevin McCarthy added 16 (4-10 3PT), and Jackson Furman notched his first career double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds). Jacen Holloway (12 points) and Joshua Eli (10 points, 7 rebounds) rounded out the scoring punch.
Back-and-Forth Thriller
Army trailed by as many as eight in the first half but stormed back with a 15-2 run to take the lead. Curry’s back-to-back threes and Furman’s inside play helped secure a 40-39 edge at halftime. The second half was a dogfight, with neither side able to pull away. Curry’s dramatic, contested three-pointer at the buzzer sent the game to overtime tied at 73.

Missed Opportunities and Lessons Learned
Army shot just 38.9% from the field and struggled at the free-throw line (7-14, 50%). The Black Knights were outrebounded 51-39 and allowed 26 offensive boards. Both teams traded blows from deep (Army 13-40, Loyola 10-31).

“We didn’t rebound well enough, we didn’t start the game defensively well enough,” said head coach Kevin Kuwick. “We fought. I’m proud of the guys. We’re getting better. But the level has to be higher.” Coach kuwick added, “You can’t give up 39 points in a half… We fought back, but we were in a hole the whole way. That’s not what you want to be at home.”
Player Reactions and Leadership
Jackson Furman, after his double-double, reflected:
“We just knew coming into this we had to be a lot tougher. As a collective, we talked about being tougher on the ball and being more emotionally tough in our response to adversity.”
Ryan Curry, on rebounding from two straight losses:
“Just back on tomorrow. No excuses. Drop two in a row. League play, drop two at home. That stings. Now we’ve got to go get a road win. Boston, old team, talented team, physical team, we’ve got to match it.”
Looking Ahead
Army now heads to Boston University for a critical road test, aiming to regroup, rebound, and reignite their Patriot League campaign.
