Sophomore Star Adds Major National Honor to Growing List of Accolades
Colorado Springs, CO — UConn women’s basketball standout and sophomore forward Sarah Strong has been honored as the 2025 USA 3×3 Female Athlete of the Year, USA Basketball announced Wednesday.
Dominance on the World Stage
Strong, a rising star from Durham, N.C., made her mark last summer as the youngest player on the USA 3×3 Women’s National Team at the 2025 FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Despite her youth, Strong was a force, averaging 7.6 points (fourth in the tournament) and leading all players with 7.8 rebounds per game. Her relentless effort helped propel Team USA to a 4-1 record and a deep run in the competition.
“Representing my country on the world stage is a dream come true,” Strong said after the tournament. “I wanted to prove I could compete with the best and help Team USA bring home a medal.”

Consistency Across the 3×3 Circuit
Strong’s impact wasn’t limited to the World Cup. She was also named to the 2025 USA 3×3 Women’s Series Team, competing in both Marseille and Ulaanbaatar. The Americans finished with 4-1 records at each stop, with Strong’s rebounding and clutch scoring making a difference in tight games. Her ability to adapt to the fast-paced, physical style of 3×3 basketball set her apart from her peers.
Building a Gold Medal Résumé
This latest honor adds to Strong’s already impressive international résumé. She previously led the United States to gold medals at the 2022 and 2023 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cups and captured the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup title. Her leadership, versatility, and poise have established her as one of the brightest young talents in women’s basketball.
UConn head coach Geno Auriemma praised Strong’s work ethic and competitive spirit: “Sarah brings intensity and maturity beyond her years. She’s a competitor who thrives in big moments, and her success with USA Basketball is a testament to her dedication.”
