A big trade as both teams needed to fill important positions on their team
Florham Park, NJ- From Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com, the New York Jets have made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, as both teams needed to fill positions on one side of the ball. The Jets traded Nickelback Michael Carter II for Wide Receiver John Metchie III. Since the arrival of Jarvis Brownlee Jr., this deal allows the Jets to trade for a sorely needed possible number two receiver to complement Garrett Wilson.
Michael Carter II
For five seasons, Michael Carter has been a reliable player in the secondary for the Jets, especially on third down. Played five games this season after suffering a concussion and missing three games due to a concussion, returned in the win at Cincinnati.
To make the trade happen, Carter had to agree to delete the $5 million guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year; he still has two years left on his current contract. He will help the Eagles as Adoree’ Jackson suffered a concussion in Week 8 at home against the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial
Field. Carter’s presence gives defensive coordinator Vic Fangio more flexibility in the secondary.
John Metchie III
This is the second time Metchie was traded inside three months, as he was with the Houston Texans before coming to the Eagles in August. Now he is going up north on the New Jersey Turnpike to play for the Jets. He will fill a big hole in the Wide Receiver room as Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds are healing from their injuries. He will join Allen Lazard, Tyler Johnson, Arian Smith, and Isaiah Williams.
Both the Jets and the Eagles will be on their Week 9 bye. They will play for their new teams in Week 10 as the Jets host the Cleveland Browns while the Eagles travel to the Midwest to play the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.
