Trick Play gets the winning touchdown, defense puts on a final stand to cement the win
Cincinnati, OH- The New York Jets finally found a way to get themselves and Head Coach Aaron Glenn his first win in the regular season of the NFL. Down for the majority of the game, the Jets found a way through the middle of the second quarter to play better on offense to get points, and kept themselves in the game till the very end with a 39-38 victory.
Another poor job at 4th & 1
After the Bengals got a 3-0 lead on their first possession, the Jets had the ball on their opening possession and failed to convert. Instead of a tush push or a QB Sneak, it was a bootleg, and the Bengals sniffed it out to make the stop three yards behind the line of scrimmage. They quickly got the touchdown to make it 10-0.
Started to click in the middle of the second quarter
After a poor opening quarter and going into the second, the Jets looked like they were going to head toward the road to another loss, but something clicked for the offense, and something clicked for Justin Fields. The Jets ran the ball multiple times. 37 rushes for 254 yards. Isaiah Davis had a 50-yard run in the third quarter. Fields also ran the ball 11 times for 37 yards.

First Touchdown in 10 quarters
In the second half, the Jets finally got into the end zone on a 4th down and 2-yard play. Justin Fields went back a step or two and threw toward the far side of the end zone, and the ball was dropped right into the hands of Tyler Johnson for the 15-yard touchdown. The first in 10 quarters and the first touchdown in the first half since Week 1 against the Steelers.
Breece Hall had a monster day
Breece Hall took his team and put them on his back. Made 18 carriers for 133 yards and scored two touchdowns to help edge the team closer to chipping away at the Bengals’ lead. His big contribution was on a gadget play, taking the lateral from Justin Fields at the final two minutes of the game. Running the ball toward the near sidelines, faked a throw, then finally threw the ball to Mason Taylor, who caught it inside the back of the end zone for 4 yards to tie the game and the extra point for the lead.
2 Pt Conversions were completed
The two Breece Hall Touchdowns were followed by two 2 Pt Conversions, and both were completed. They also had to work hard for them, and a little luck. On the first one, Justin Fields had to scramble away from the defenders and finally found space to take it into the end zone to make the score 31-24 Cincinnati.
Then the next touchdown, Fields scrambles toward the near sideline and somehow throws the ball into the end zone to Isaiah Davis, who caught it inside, but his front half landed outside, and the play was called incomplete. Automatic booth review saw Davis just a hair inside the goal line, the tip of the ball broke the plane of the goal line, and the catch was secured, which gave the Jets another 2 Pt Conversion.

Defense came up huge at the end
The Jets’ defense reversed itself again after their last two games. They couldn’t stop a nosebleed and continued to leak yardage and touchdowns. But somehow, in their last two defensive moments at the end of the game, they came up big.
A huge third-down sack by Will McDonald that gave him his third of the season, and then on the final possession, the Jets were allowing some running yards, but then stood their ground. Only gave up one yard as they forced three incompletions by Joe Flacco, and the Jets finally beat the Bengals to get their first win of the season.
“When it comes to this game, very, very exciting. I tell a lot of guys at halftime, these are the games that I really can tell the mental and physical toughness of our team and the grit that we’ve been talking about that we have to play with to win these games. And throughout the season, you guys have been hearing me say we have to learn how before you can learn how to consistently win, you have to learn how not to.
And there were a number of things that we did today that didn’t put us in a position to lose this game, but put us in a position to win this. Penalties, no turnovers. I mean, we didn’t get a takeaway, but man, I got up and fighting our ass off to try to get it. And this is a game of players making plays, especially in crucial times.
And we had a number of guys who made plays at crucial times. So now it’s our time to consistently do that. And all that happens is the way that you go about practice. Proud of these guys and proud of the way they fought. We still have a long way to go. It’s one win, and I hate the fact that it wasn’t a seven, but I’m happy that we got us a win today. And we can go through this bye week and get ready for Cleveland,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn
Won this for Nick Mangold
As it has been reported, former Jets Pro Bowl Center Nick Mangold passed away at the age of 41, from a genetic defect that led to chronic kidney disease. The Jets found a way to get this victory, not just for themselves, but for Nick Mangold’s family.
