Aaron Glenn Addresses Woody Johnson’s Comments

The head coach talks to the media after his owner makes comments on his team

Florham Park, NJ- New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn, in his midweek press conference with the media, came to the podium to have a chat and provide updates on the status of the roster. The Jets are also preparing for their road game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 before they enter the bye in the following week.

Everyone saw New York Jets owner Robert “Woody” Johnson making comments supporting head coach Aaron Glenn and making comments against his starting quarterback, Justin Fields. While this man provides everything an NFL owner does for his coaching staff and players, many are taking this as a sign that Woody is interfering with his team once again.

Glenn’s response to the media

Today, Aaron Glenn addressed the comments made by his owner and gave his thoughts about them.

“Obviously, he was very pointed about Justin, and in the locker room, you want everybody to be all together as one, and he’s signaling somebody else. So how do you navigate that between those two worlds? Well, the first thing I would say he’s an owner and he has a right to his opinion. And when you look at that, it’s really something that’s been said across the board from everybody, including Justin. Man, we have to improve, and we understand that.

We’ve gone two games without scoring a touchdown, and we have to make sure we get better in that aspect. So we’re all on the same page. It might be said differently; it might be said with different tones, but we’ve all been on the same page when it comes to that, when it comes to our running back play, when it comes to our quarterback play, when it comes to our defensive play.

So nothing’s different about what we’ve done; we just say it in a different tone in a different way. So I’m glad we’re on the same page on that, even with our quarterbacks. So we’re just fine with that. How much involvement does he have in the quarterback decision this week? Woody leaves all that up to me,” said Glenn

Aaron Glenn had to rally the troops and tell his players to be strong and let them know he’s there for them. It’s the head coach’s job to make sure he gets anything negative creeping into the locker room and removes it as fast as possible.

“I’ve spoken to the team about it, but there are so many other things that we have to talk about. Again, we’re all on the same page, and we know exactly what we have to do in that instance.”

Woody Johnson’s comments toward Fields

Woody Johnson made comments about Justin Fields’ play, and many believe that he should’ve kept his opinions to himself, but once again, Woody will let his feelings be known right or wrong. But when the owner speaks, everyone listens.

“Well, I said before that Woody puts that in my hand as far as who plays, and I don’t see that changing. He trusted me to make that decision. Again, he commented, and he has every right to his comment. And again, that comment was actually said by a number of guys, including our quarterback, as far as the efficiency of how we play.

And we’re not gonna fight that. We understand that. We have to get better. We do. But I don’t think there’s anywhere in that comment where he said he doesn’t like Justin. I don’t think there’s anywhere in that comment where he says that.”

Glenn and the Coaching Staff need to be better

There’s no denying it, the Coaching staff and the Head Coach must be better from here on out, or else they will go winless the entire season. Aaron Glenn’s decision-making in certain situations is causing confusion and anger among the fans. Going for it on fourth down with more than a yard or two, deciding not to go for the points at a certain point in the game

Continuing to accept penalties when he should’ve declined a penalty after he had the opposition on third down and nearly at thirty yards, to force them to punt it away and make it fourth down. The defense couldn’t stop the opposition’s offense until these last two games, where they only gave up 13 points. Now the offense is out of whack and hasn’t scored a touchdown in the last two games.

Aaron Glenn must get this fixed, and quickly. While Woody has given Glenn a vote of confidence to continue as the head coach of the Jets, one day he will change his mind and fire him on the spot. Just like last season, when Woody fired Robert Salah before an important AFC East Divisional matchup against the Buffalo Bills after returning from London in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
