Three players on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams get mentioned for Week 7 honors
New York, NY- The National Football Conference (NFC) has given three players awards for Week 7’s Players of the Week as San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons, and Carolina Panthers Punter Sam Martin were honored for their performances.
Christian McCaffrey
Recorded seven receptions, 201 scrimmage yards (129 rushing, 72 receiving) and two rushing touchdowns in San Francisco’s 20-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons Atlanta Falcons, on Sunday Night Football. This was McCaffrey’s 47th game in which he acquired 50 receiving yards or more, tying Ronnie Harmon with the third most games with at least 50 receiving yards by a running back during the Super Bowl era.
Larry Centers, in 55 games, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, in 50 games, have more than McCaffrey. This is McCaffrey’s third offensive player of the week award, and he is tied with 49ers running back Garrison Hurst. He trails Frank Gore, who leads the team with five, and Roger Craig, second with four.
Micah Parsons
He recorded five tackles, four of them were for a loss of yards, and a career high for sacks in a game with three in the win over the Arizona Cardinals by a final score of 27-23. This is Parson’s 16th game which he has recorded two sacks in a game, and he’s tied with T.J. Watt for the fifth-most such games from a player in his first five seasons since 1982.
Only Pro Football Hall of Famers have more in Reggie Whtie (24 games), Richard Dent (19 Games), J.J. Watt (21 Games), and Jared Allen (17 Games). This is Parson’s fourth Career Defensive Player of the Week award, all of which came when he was with the Dallas Cowboys till this season with the Packers. He is the third Packers player to do it in 20 years (2006-25), since Aaron Kampman did it twice and Dean Lowry.
He also ties Cameron Wake as a former Penn State player who was also a four-time NFC Player of the Week Defensive award winner.
Sam Martin
Punted the ball six times in the 13-6 win over the New York Jets. Four of those six were inside the 20-yard line. One of them was inside the 10 and inside the five, with a league-long of 68 yards and an average of 46.
This is Martin’s fourth career Special Teams Player of the Week award, and first as a Panther. His last three came when he was with the Detroit Lions. He is the fifth Panther Punter to have the honor, joining Ken Walter, Todd Sauerbrun, Jason Baker, and Joseph Carlton.
Martin also surpasses Mark Royals, who won it three times as a former Appalachian State player.
