Still looking for their first win when the Panthers come to town
Florham Park, NJ- The New York Jets are getting ready for their Week 7 game as they host the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium. Just as the Jets are not doing well with zero wins, the Panthers are also not doing well, but they have earned three wins and are in third place in the NFC South. The Jets need to get their act together on all phases of their game.
Garrett Wilson is Doubtful
Since suffering a knee injury during the London game last week against the Denver Broncos, Garrett Wilson is listed as Doubtful for the game this coming weekend. The Jets’ top Wide Receiver could miss some significant time for the first time in his career.
Michael Carter II is finishing concussion protocol
Jets Cornerback Michel Carter II was a full participant at practice as he was finishing up his final stage of his concussion protocol. So the hope is he can help out with the secondary and get back into the game.
Aaron Glenn knows the issues with the Jets
Head Coach Aaron Glenn is well aware of the issues that are happening with the Jets. He’s trying to get them fixed, but unfortunately, it’s been a rough ride. IF the Defense isn’t doing its Job, the offense is. But if the roles are reversed, it’s been a tough first six weeks of the new season.
“When it comes to this week, the focus of this week is winning this game, hands down, point blank. But also making sure that we improve. There’s no way to consistently win. without improving. So, the guys have done a good job of that. We know we have a lot of work to do. We’re not running away from where we are. But again, we’re looking to improve even today. You know, we’re going out there for this red zone practice and to improve,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn.
Justin Fields needs to be better
We all saw how poor Justin Fields was last week in London, and the Jets know they have to do a much better job in protecting their quarterback so he can throw the football down the field. He also has to stop holding the ball so long that he can’t make a play.
“Any time we have a chance, if you’re out there, we’re going to try to use his abilities. Every game is different. I think I said that earlier in the week about how we want to utilize him. The thing we don’t want to do is put him in a situation where we have to make sure we protect him from himself, a lot of times, too.
So he’s our quarterback and we want to make sure that we utilize him the right way With the pass protection moving forward what can you guys do to shore things up against Blitzes Because a lot of teams are doing that against you guys Yeah well first off we just have to execute the right way And there’s several things we can do as far as keeping guys in when it comes to protecting our quarterback too.”
Will McDonald hasn’t made sacks since Week 1
We saw Will McDonald breakout last season with ten or more sacks. He started well this season with two sacks against the Steelers, but since then, he hasn’t had any. The hope is that he can get going again and earn more sacks, as he is the team leader with two.
“Yeah, obviously, he started on fire in the first game by having the two sacks in that game. The thing is, we have to try to do everything we can to try to get him involved as much as we can, as far as the pass choice is concerned. He’s a special athlete, we all know that. He has a trait that we want to take advantage of, and we just got to try to utilize that as much as possible.
What I do think he’s been doing a good job. I mean, obviously, there are some things that he needs to work on, just like any other player, but I’m happy with where he’s at. Last year he had, I think it was like seven sacks from the first six games or something.
