Another poor offensive outing for the Jets as they go 0-7
East Rutherford, NJ- The New York Jets hosted the Carolina Panthers in a game they had to end this losing streak, but once again, their offense played poorly. They couldn’t sustain any drives, and even when Justin Fields had another poor game, Tyrod Taylor took over in the second half. But they couldn’t get the win as the Jets fell to the Panthers by a final score of 13-6.
Defense improves again
The Jets’ defense once again played their hearts out by preventing the big plays, and continued to hammer the Panthers’ offense. While they did give up the only touchdown of the game, they forced two field goals, but also forced many punts, and had a big stop on 4th & 1 to earn a turnover on downs.
Multiple sack game
For the first time since week one of the season against the Steelers, the Jets had a multiple-sack game. Jowon Briggs earned his second sack of the season, tying him with Will McDonald for the team lead with two, and Jamien Sherwood earned his first sack of the season.
Justin Fields was horrible
No matter how many times the Jets had the ball and how many attempts at positive yards they tried to make, the Jets couldn’t make anything happen. Once again, Justin Fields held the ball too long, stayed in the pocket, and barely made any plays with his feet. Completed six passes out of 12 attempts for 46 yards and was sacked three times.
Tyrod Taylor came in the second half
Tyrod Taylor was inserted into the game and did a little bit better than Fields. He made some strong plays and solid throws to move the Jets down the field. But unfortunately, he was picked off twice, including inside the end zone for a touchback. Completed ten passes out of 22 attempts for 126 yards and was sacked three times.
Aaron Glenn continues to make poor decisions
Aaron Glenn either wants to be aggressive or doesn’t. He continues to confuse the fans and the media with some of his decisions. On their first possession, the Jets were stopped at Carolina’s 33 yard line. It was 4th & 5, instead of kicking the field goal and taking the points, he decided to go for it, and Fields threw an incomplete pass.
On their final possession toward the end of the first half, the Jets had one timeout left and 10 seconds remaining on the clock. After Fields was sacked, Glenn allowed the clock to run down and never used his last timeout to attempt a Hail Mary pass.
“When it comes to the game, I’m obviously disappointed. I mean, another low-scoring game where the defense did a hell of a job, you know, holding this team to 13 points. Again, a good amount of three-and-outs, but obviously not good enough. I mean, we gave too many points to allow them to win the game.
Offensively, we have a lot of work to do, and that speaks for itself. We all know that. But the only thing we can do is go back to work. It’s the only thing we can do. Now I understand the nature of the quarterback change. Listen, we needed it at that time. I felt it was the right time to do it. Obviously, it was a tough situation for both of those guys.
But it was my call. It was my call, and I felt it was the right time to do it. So when it goes into the next week, I’m not ready to sit here and say what’s going to happen next week with our quarterbacks. But I will say this: that’s something I have to look at, you,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn
