End the season on the road in Columbus
East Hanover, NJ- Decision day has finally come to the New York Red Bulls, but sadly, their fate was already decided about three weeks ago. They are headed to the Capital of the state of Ohio against the Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field. This one will be for pride, and hoping to get into next season on a positive note for 2026.
Important to end strong
The Red Bulls are going into this game with the importance of finishing strong and having a good feeling when they get into the offseason. But make no mistake, the Crew also wants to finish strong before they get started for the playoffs themselves.
“First of all, we have to finish this season very seriously, so that’s with the game on Saturday against Columbus. That’s, as always, when we are playing against Columbus, a very tactical game with both styles of play. And, of course, when we then talk about the next season, we started after the Cincinnati game to discuss everything in detail, to talk a lot in our coaching staff and also with the medical, all these topics, and what we have to improve in our big picture is to have more output. This is what I said after the press conference against Cincinnati. And that’s the same when we talk about the big picture as our output, especially with no offensive behavior,” said Sandro Schwarz
The group’s character is still strong
Schwarz has a good feeling from the players as he has kept them focused and ready to finish off this horrible season. Everyone is keeping up their positive spirits, and they want to finish strong on the road. But at the same time, evaluating what went wrong from the start till the end of 2025.
“Yeah, I think we also have a press conference after the season, after the Columbus game. So, but what I said when it’s I don’t want to go now in detail. But the big picture is what you see. Our numbers for most of the home games have been very good. So I would say 90 of the games on the road were not good enough.
And so this is the reason why we didn’t play or why we don’t play the playoffs. So, of course, with all these numbers, when you are going into detail, then it’s the output in our transition moments. And it’s not only the responsibility of Emil and Chupo. I’m convinced about their job, what they did this season.
So they have these numbers, they have the goals, they have the assists, but we need more, more players then, especially in the final third and the opponents’ half to make the decisions in the final pass and also to be very Aggressive in deep runs, and that’s what’s for me an important part in our season.
When we compare this to the first season so and of course, and then we can go into details in some moments, of course, where we have to defend better in some moments, but the character of the group is great and of course we didn’t get the the qualification for the playoffs but the character of the whole group also these last two weeks. That’s great, they are trying to give every training session their best. That’s really a good mentality, and that’s good, and now we are looking for the Columbus game.“
Gustav Breggren had little time to be impactful
Many were hoping that Gustav Breggren was going to make an impact for the club when he arrived, but sadly, his delays with the Visa process made his time short on the back end of the schedule, and it just wasn’t enough from him to help keep the playoff streak alive.
“Yeah, it was a short amount of time, and I had one goal in and that was trying to help the team go to the playoffs, and we didn’t make it. But other than that, it has been good. Teammates and the club have welcomed me in a good way, but our main target was the playoffs. And yeah, it is what it is,” said Breggren.
Once this game has come and gone, the club will officially be in offseason mode. Making moves to help strengthen the roster, hopefully using that time to find players in the transfer window for the upcoming winter. But we will also wait and see who will be on the chopping block from the roster, and anyone will be missing from the coaching staff and front office. We shall wait for that news to happen.
