A first-half destruction for the Central American Side
Tegucigalpa, Honduras-The second matchday in the October international Window saw Group C in action with the first match of two. Honduras wanted to get home and face Haiti to retake the top spot after what happened on Thursday night. They did so flawlessly and jumped back up to take the result by a final score of three goals to nil.
Early chance in the match
Honduras moved the ball up the pitch from their area. Kervin Arriaga was looking for an outlet to deliver the ball, and he found it as he spotted Rigoberto Rivas attempting to make a run. Looped the ball into Rivas’s path, stayed onside, then Rivas chipped the keeper and put the home side ahead in the 18th minute.
Determination for a goal
Another chance was calling for Honduras, seeing Luis Palma bringing up the ball and looking for an opportunity. He found it as he sent the ball toward Antony Lozano, making a run. One defender caught up to him, then a second defender aided his teammate, but Lozano wouldn’t be denied as he powered his shot through the defenders and scored in the 26th minute
Rebound stuffed home
Honduras, once again looking for another goal, would get it near the back end of the first half. As the shot was from the near side and the save was made at the near post, the rebound was cleared out, but not all the way down. Romell Quioto collected the rebound and blasted it home in the 40th minute.
Never relented, kept attacking
Honduras showed why they wanted the victory so badly. Attacking every time they had the ball and making a statement. While they didn’t earn more in the second half, they showed why they wanted that top spot in the group. Edrick Menjivar stood tall at his goal to make sure he kept the clean sheet.
One more month and two more games to go to see if they will advance to the World Cup itself. They have won this battle, but they need to keep it up in the November International Window.
