The Florida Derby ends in a stalemate with no goals.
Tampa, FL- The two finalists of last season’s Gainbridge Super League Final met at Suncoast Credit Union Field for their first battle in the Florida State Derby. These two sides always give it their all from last season, and they continued to do so this season. But at the end of the 90 minutes, this match ended in a scoreless draw.
Goalkeeping was at a premium
Both goalkeepers did a good job of making saves or stops, preventing the ball from entering their net. Sydney Schneider of Tampa Bay and Bella Hara of Fort Lauderdale United were on their game for the entire 90 minutes.
Attacking soccer was on display
Both sides were at a premium when they attacked the net. No one took a play off, and they looked dangerous on their shots. Both sides should be proud of attacking when they had the ball.
Stats in favor of Tampa Bay
The Sun led on Shots 12 to 6, 3 to 1 on Blocked Shots, 5 to 4 with shots outside the box, and led 7 to 2 with shots inside the box. But the one statistic Fort Lauderdale had was Shots on Goal 2 to 1. Solid match as Fort Lauderdale United remains at the top of the Gainbridge Super League with a one point advantage on Lexington SC.
“We’re only as good as what we produced in our last game, and today wasn’t our best game. It’s never easy to get a point on the road, but we obtained the point, and we’re just going to move forward, work harder, and learn and grow from this,” said Head Coach Ali Rogers
Fort Lauderdale United’s Next Match is away at Lexington SC at Lexington SC Stadium on Sunday, October 19th at 2 PM Eastern. You can watch locally on WPGL Channel 10 or stream on NBC’s Peacock app or website
