The rookie continues to impress as the Rangers win in the extra period.
Elmont, NY- The New York Rangers headed to UBS Arena at Belmont Park to face the New York Islanders for the second time in this preseason. A healthy battle between the two teams, as they went into overtime to finish the job. This time, the Rangers were able to get a victory as they defeated the Islanders by a final score of three to two.
Jusso Parssinen taps in the rebound.
Connor Mackey passed the puck to Jusso Parssinen, then skated to the bench. Parssinen attacks down the near side, makes a cross-ice pass to Will Cuylle, cuts in front of the net, and shoots it for a save, but the rebound was left alone until Parssinen tapped it in at 5:30 of the first period.
Shesterkin misplayed the puck
Matthew Barzel skates hard down the near side into the Rangers’ zone. He got to the near corner for a quick pass back to the slot, and Anthony Duclair arrived for a quick shot. Igor Shesterkin did attempt a save, but the puck hit him off his right arm and bounced into the net at 1:14 of the second period.
Will Cuylle retake the lead
Gabe Perrault was at the endboards with a quick pass back to the point at Mackey. Skated to the far side with a quick pass to Cuylle at the far boards. Cuylle skated down and around the boards, but when he got to the near side post, he quickly shot it. The puck went off David Rittich and in at 3:45 of the second period.
De’Angelo ties it up again
Dylan Garand was back in net in the third period again as the Islanders skated around in the zone for the tying goal. Duclair at the far boards in center ice, passed the puck to Kyle Palmieri entering the zone. A pass back to Tony De’Angelo, rips a shot that deflects off a defender and in at 11:33 of the third period.
Overtime winner
The Rangers started the rush behind their net from Braden Schneider. He gave the puck to Perreault, skating through the neutral zone, and entered the Islanders’ zone. He feathered a pass to Noah Laba at the near side, cut across in front of the net, and beat Ritter to the far post for his first preseason goal at 1:01 in overtime.
Laba and Perreault continue to shine.
In four preseason games for these two rookies, Gabe Perreault and Noah Laba, they have been shining very brightly. Perreault has two goals and two assists, while Noah Laba finally added a goal with his four assists. These two players are demonstrating their desire to be part of the Rangers and begin their NHL careers.
