MONTRÉAL, QC – Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team will make its long-awaited return to Montréal this October, marking the squad’s first appearance in the city since 2017 as they prepare to face two formidable Top 25 FIFA-ranked opponents in crucial international friendlies.
Canada Soccer announced Monday the selection of 24 players who will represent the CANMNT during the October FIFA Window, featuring matches against Australia and Colombia as the team continues its impressive rise in global rankings.
Montréal Homecoming Highlights October Schedule
The Canadian squad will first take on Australia (FIFA rank #25) on Friday, October 10, at Stade Saputo in Montréal, with tickets nearly sold out for the historic homecoming match. The team will then travel to face Colombia (FIFA rank #14) on Tuesday, October 14, at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
“September was a really important step forward for our group,” said Jesse Marsch, MLS Canada Head Coach of the Men’s National Team. “It was not just the results, but the way we carried ourselves in tough environments and proved we can compete with high-quality opponents. The belief and momentum we built in Europe will be important to carry into October, and I know the players are excited for the chance to play in front of a sold-out crowd in Montréal.”
Historic FIFA Ranking Breakthrough
The CANMNT enters the October window riding unprecedented momentum after moving up two spots to #26 in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking – the highest position in the Federation’s history, surpassing the previous record of #28 set in June 2025.
The historic ranking follows a record-breaking September camp that saw Canada earn back-to-back victories on European soil against Romania and Wales. The wins marked the first time in program history that CANMNT has defeated three UEFA nations in succession and the first away victory against a European opponent on European soil since 2009.
