“Canada Rising” initiative aims to diversify revenue streams and fuel growth through philanthropic support by 2027
Toronto, Canada – Canada Soccer has unveiled an ambitious $25 million fundraising campaign designed to revolutionize the financial foundation of Canadian soccer over the next two years.
The “Canada Rising” initiative, launched through the Canada Soccer Foundation, has already secured over $11 million in gifts and commitments from Canadian donors who share the organization’s vision of creating a unified and aspirational foundation for soccer across the country.
Strategic Shift Toward Philanthropy
Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue and VP of Philanthropy Samantha Rogers announced the campaign as part of a broader strategy to diversify revenue streams beyond traditional government funding and commercial partnerships.
“Philanthropy will play an increasingly important role in Canada Soccer’s future, helping us diversify revenue and unlock new investments in the game,” the leadership team stated in their announcement.
The campaign represents a significant shift for Canadian soccer, following successful models established by organizations like the Canadian Olympic Foundation and American university athletics programs.
Dual-Track Funding Approach
The fundraising strategy operates on two distinct levels:
Annual Giving through CanadaRED: Since launching new membership tiers on July 29, over 77,000 new members have joined, contributing more than $1.5 million. These contributions are being reinvested directly into soccer priorities.
Major Gifts Program: Significant donations from individuals, families, and corporations seeking to create lasting impact. Many donors have already made multi-year commitments, reflecting confidence in Canada Soccer’s long-term vision.
Investment Priorities
The $25 million campaign will direct funds toward three core areas:
- National team system development
- Coaching excellence programs
- Youth-facing programming to increase access to soccer
These investments address critical needs as traditional revenue streams struggle to keep pace with the rapid growth demands of Canadian soccer.
Governance Structure
The Canada Soccer Foundation operates as a separately incorporated charitable organization with its own Board of Directors, providing additional oversight for donor funds and enabling broader community involvement in supporting soccer development.
This dual-board structure mirrors best practices seen across North American sports organizations, ensuring transparency and accountability in philanthropic activities.
Leadership Vision
“We’re proud to be taking a leadership role among National Sport Organizations by making philanthropy a core part of how Canada Soccer is funded,” Blue and Rogers emphasized.
The initiative positions Canada Soccer alongside commercial activity, home matches, major events, international governing body grants, government support, membership, and other partnerships as part of a comprehensive funding ecosystem.
Community Engagement Opportunities
Canada Soccer has outlined multiple ways for supporters to participate in the campaign:
CanadaRED Membership: Supporters can join the grassroots movement to stand behind National Teams and build momentum through annual giving.
Major Gift Opportunities: Individuals and organizations seeking greater impact can explore partnership opportunities directly with the Canada Soccer Foundation.

Long-Term Sustainability Goals
The campaign aims to establish long-term sustainable financial strength for Canadian soccer, ensuring the sport has necessary resources not just for immediate needs but for continued growth over the coming years.
“Together, we can make sure soccer in Canada has the resources it needs to thrive, not just today but for years to come,” the leadership team concluded.
Industry Context
The move reflects broader trends in Canadian sports funding, where organizations increasingly rely on philanthropic support to supplement traditional revenue sources. The success of similar campaigns by other national sports organizations has demonstrated the potential for community-driven funding models.
With soccer’s growing popularity across Canada and increasing demands for high-performance programs, the Canada Rising campaign represents a critical investment in the sport’s future infrastructure and development capabilities.
