Several topics from the Canadian Soccer Federation to discuss for the now and future
Ottawa, ON – Canada Soccer has announced several items it is discussing to improve and put its Federation in a better position for the future of its governance of the sport. Here are those topics they have announced after they met with their board of directors.
The World Cup and its lasting impact
With Canada ranked 25th in the world, its highest ranking to date, there is excitement in the air, along with next summer’s World Cup and playing matches in both Toronto and Vancouver. Canada Soccer is taking the time to reflect on the long journey they have encountered as they are one of the three host nations, and remembering those who were a part of this journey.
Current President of CONCACAF Victor Montagliani and Peter Montopoli, who were former leaders of Canada Soccer, and their hard work, bringing the greatest soccer tournament to arrive within the nation. Their goal is to create a National Training Centre to help invest in and improve the Canadian players in both the men’s and women’s game.
Strengthening Financial Health
Canada Soccer’s financial trajectory is going upward, as they have had positive results in several forward-looking trends. They have been able to reduce their debt from 4 million Canadian dollars to $2.4 million in their 2025 budget. Canada Soccer is also on track to finish the year ahead of this budget while doubling investment into youth soccer, making a new $1 million funding contribution to support the Northern Super League (NSL).
While Canada Soccer is feeling positive about these moments, they know they can’t sit on their laurels and assume they have reached the finish line. They are well aware they must press on and continue their improvements and trajectory, continuing to go upward. They are also grateful to their donors, assisting in their Canada Soccer Foundation of Canada’s Rising Campaign.
Strengthening Culture
Canada Soccer has been happy about what they have seen from the Soccer Community with the grassroots support they have earned. This new wave of support has been exciting, and the number of fans that have filled the different stadiums to watch the teams play from BC Place in Vancouver, to BMO Field in Toronto, and during away matches has been exciting to see.
While they do acknowledge the drone incident was a big setback, they have emerged from that dark period to rise, punish those who accepted this type of behavior. Fourteen of the coaching and administrative staff were disciplined, still Canada Soccer took a hard look at itself and improved its positions. to make the game healthy and positive once again.
Strengthening Partnerships
Chief Executive Officer and General Secretary Kevin Blue and his staff are working closely with the new members of the Canadian Soccer Business leadership, like James Johnson, the new CEO, to find common ground. At the moment, the relationship is productive and going well. At the end, the hope is to reach a realigned partnership that best serves the long-term interests of Canadian soccer and its stakeholders.
President Peter Augruso is traveling across the country to work with the leadership of our Provincial and Territorial partners. Engaging with them in the important conversations to help strengthen and build the shared vision to make soccer better within Canada, from the Maritimes all the way to British Columbia.
Ottawa Office
The current location of the Ottawa office will soon be listed for sale as Canada Soccer is looking for a new location within the Capital City. While the house was built in 1876, and a former residence of Canada’s third Prime Minister, it’s no longer an option to keep it around for a modern workspace. They also have a satellite office space in Toronto to stay close to their Commercial Stake Holders and based partner.
