QUEENS, N.Y. – In a tightly contested match that honored the memory of September 11th, St. John’s University secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University on Thursday night at Cox Family Field, with graduate student Bjorn Nikolajewski scoring the decisive goal in his first appearance of the season.
A Moment of Breakthrough
Nikolajewski’s goal came in the 49th minute, marking his first collegiate goal in his 49th career appearance. The graduate student, who had missed the first six matches of the season, delivered the game-winning strike after an Ivar Nå Aga cross was partially cleared, finding the bottom right corner of the net.

Before the match, St. John’s paid tribute to the victims of the September 11th attacks. Campus Minister for Athletics Fr. Richard Rock delivered a pre-game prayer, while the St. John’s ROTC presented the nation’s colors and NYPD Officer Minerva Joanus performed the national anthem.
