Greenburgh, NY- Three Rangers rookies talk to the media about Rookie Camp
The Rangers are preparing their new rookies for their Rookie camp before their upcoming 2025-26 season training camp and preseason in late September. Three rookies discussed their time at camp
Gabe Perreault wants to earn his spot
The most highly ranked prospect from the Rangers is rookie right winger Gabe Perreault, after a strong career at Boston College, and a part of Team USA’s back-to-back World Junior Championship gold medal finishes. Signed by the Rangers at their back end of last season. He’s going to show Head Coach Mike Sullivan that he wants to earn a roster spot for this season.
“I’m going to make the, obviously, I know that it’s not going to be given to me. So I’m going to come in every day, work hard, and try to prove it. The speed, the game, how the guys play, obviously. It’s the best league in the world,” said Perreault.
Noah Laba is starting well
For the 4th Round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, the forward split time after his college hockey at Colorado College and his first professional games with the Hartford WolfPack in the AHL last season. In his 11 games at Hartford, Laba scored three goals, picked up two assists. The hope for him is to learn the system of how Mike Sullivan wants to play and hopefully improve his game.
“Obviously, there’s a lot of you know lessons to be learned here: a lot of teaching points. Kind of get to know the systems and get closer with this group of It’s my first one, so I’ve kind of been taking it all in, but it’s been great, “said Laba
(Playing with Gabe Perreault and Brennen Othmann) “Yeah, it’s awesome. Obviously, two unbelievable players and to kind of bounce ideas off them, learn from them, just try to play my hardest, be a good support guy for them, and hopefully we work well together. I got to probably a little more specific.”
Brennan Othmann makes personal changes for the new season
Brennan Othmann was called up in the middle of last season from Hartford and finished it with the Rangers. He knows he needs to improve his play for this season, which means changing up his training habits before arriving at rookie camp.
“I switched gyms, so I worked at Gary Roberts. So he’s got a lot of flying clients there. So I worked out with a bunch of other NHL guys, you know, McDavid, Dreisaitl, Landeskog, Sean Dursey, like Clinton Byfield. I mean, those are just kind of the sample size of what he’s got there. I skate with them, work out with them every day. So, it was a pretty good summer. So, you know, I weighed myself in here at 195. So I just keep trying to get bigger each year and keep getting more leaner and more muscles. So, yeah, it was a good summer,” said Othmann.
Otthman, known as a goalscorer, was having issues not putting the puck into the back of the net. Many know that when the puck goes in, you are having a good season. But when it’s not going well, that’s when the issues start to creep in, but Othmann knows he needs to keep himself even keeled for this upcoming season.
“I do believe that I belong. I still think I just, you know, not scoring a goal is and a lot of people. know that. And I wasn’t questioning my abilities or my game or anything like that. No one in the dressing room or the organization was. It’s just, it just, it just wasn’t, it wasn’t going in. It’s not like I was playing bad hockey. It just, it just wasn’t going in. And sometimes it happens. And that takes a toll on your mind. And that’s something that not everyone prepares you for, which is that side of the game. But you know, you learn over the summer about the mental game and all that stuff, too.“
