Historic Honors for a Rising Star
BETHLEHEM, PA — Army West Point’s junior standout Kya Smith continues to make headlines, earning Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after a stretch of games that will go down in Black Knights history.
A Game for the Ages: Smith’s Dominance vs. Howard
Smith, a Lubbock, Texas native, delivered a performance for the ages in Army’s 64-56 win over Howard. She exploded for career-highs with 27 points, 22 rebounds, and a perfect 15-for-15 at the free-throw line. Her 20-20 game was just the fifth in program history and the first since 2020. Smith’s 22 rebounds are tied for the second-most ever by a Black Knight in a single game.
Elite Company in NCAA Women’s Basketball
Smith’s monster stat line places her among the nation’s elite. She joins Megan Nestor (North Texas) as the only NCAA players this season to record at least 27 points and 22 rebounds in a game. Within the Patriot League, only Army legend Madison Hovren has matched Smith’s feat since 2009-10.

Consistency and Leadership on the Court
Smith’s impact goes far beyond one game. She followed up her historic outing with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double in the league opener, adding a career-high six assists. In Army’s dominant win over Colgate, she added nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals, showcasing her versatility and relentless motor.
On the season, Smith leads Army in points (15.8), rebounds (10.8), shooting percentage (.593), and steals (24). Her leadership and consistency have powered the Black Knights to a 10-3 (1-1) record, cementing her as the team’s emotional and statistical anchor.
