The NFL’s international growth strategy will once again blend football and music on one of Europe’s biggest stages.
The league announced Friday that Colombian music superstar Manuel Turizo will headline the halftime show for the 2026 NFL Madrid Game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 8 at the iconic Bernabéu Stadium. The performance will serve as one of seven halftime shows scheduled across the NFL’s international slate this season, marking the largest global entertainment initiative the league has ever attached to its overseas schedule.
For the NFL, the announcement is about much more than halftime entertainment. It represents another step in the league’s ongoing effort to strengthen its connection with international audiences by combining American football with some of the most recognizable artists from the regions hosting games.
Madrid Continues To Grow as A Key NFL Market
Madrid has quickly become one of the NFL’s most important European destinations. While London remains the cornerstone of the league’s overseas presence, the NFL has invested heavily in expanding its footprint across the continent, and Spain has emerged as one of its most promising markets.
The Bernabéu Stadium provides a showcase venue capable of attracting worldwide attention, and the pairing of the Bengals, Falcons, and an internationally recognized artist reflects the league’s goal of making its overseas games more than regular-season contests. Increasingly, the NFL views these events as week-long celebrations designed to introduce new audiences to the sport while strengthening relationships with existing fans.
That approach has helped transform international games from isolated experiments into some of the most anticipated events on the league calendar.
Why Manuel Turizo Was an Easy Choice
Turizo arrives in Madrid as one of Latin music’s most recognizable stars.
The Colombian singer first gained worldwide attention with “Una Lady Como Tú” before expanding his global reach through hits such as “La Bachata,” “El Merengue,” “Vagabundo,” and “Copa Vacía.” Collaborations with artists including Shakira, Maluma, Marshmello, and Sebastián Yatra have further elevated his profile and helped establish him as one of the most influential voices in modern Latin music.
Following the release of his fifth studio album, APAMBICHAO, Turizo continues to attract audiences across Europe, North America, and Latin America. His ability to connect with multiple demographics made him a logical selection for an event expected to reach millions of viewers across several continents.
“It’s a pleasure to be part of the NFL halftime show in Madrid,” Turizo said. “We’re going to have an amazing time with plenty of surprises for all the football fans. Let’s turn it up and make it unforgettable!”
Turizo said during his interview
The NFL’s Entertainment Strategy Has Evolved
The NFL’s international games are no longer simply about exporting American football.
The league has increasingly embraced local culture by pairing games with artists who resonate within host countries and regions. Rather than treating every international stop the same, the NFL has worked to give each city its own identity.
That philosophy played a major role in Turizo’s selection.
According to NFL Senior Director of Global Game Presentation, Music and Entertainment Tim Tubito, the league wanted a performer capable of capturing both the energy of Madrid and the global appeal that has become central to the NFL’s international vision.
“Madrid has quickly become an important stage for the NFL internationally, and bringing Manuel Turizo to the Bernabéu gives us the opportunity to build a halftime show with real cultural connection and global energy,” Tubito said. “As one of Latin music’s most dynamic artists, Turizo reflects the energy, creativity, and international appeal we look for when creating these performances.”
The emphasis on cultural relevance has become increasingly visible as the NFL expands into new territories and attempts to connect with younger audiences through entertainment, social media, and local partnerships.
A Record International Season
The Madrid showcase will be part of what the NFL considers its most ambitious international campaign to date.
The 2026 schedule includes games in London, Madrid, Melbourne, Mexico City, Munich, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro, creating one of the largest global footprints in league history. Several of those destinations represent newer markets in the NFL’s ongoing international expansion efforts.
The entertainment lineup reflects that same global approach.
The Jonas Brothers will perform in Melbourne; Pedro Sampaio and Ricky Martin will headline in Rio; Ayra Starr is scheduled for London; Burna Boy will perform in Paris; Cage the Elephant is set for Munich; and The Warning will take the stage in Mexico City.
Together, the lineup spans multiple continents, genres, and cultures, underscoring the NFL’s commitment to making each international game a unique experience rather than a copy-and-paste production.
More Than Just A Football Game
For fans attending the NFL Madrid Game, Turizo’s halftime show adds another layer of excitement to an event already expected to draw significant attention throughout Spain and the rest of Europe.
For the NFL, however, the performance represents something larger. Every international game serves as an opportunity to grow the sport beyond the United States. The league has learned that success in those markets often requires more than the product on the field. Music, entertainment, fan festivals, and cultural engagement have become critical components in building long-term connections with international audiences.
When the Bengals and Falcons take the field on Nov. 8, the focus will ultimately be on football.
When Turizo steps onto the stage at halftime, he will represent another important piece of the NFL’s continuing effort to transform itself from America’s game into a truly global sport.
