Morocco’s Early Goal Edges Scotland

It was another big match at Gillette Stadium, seeing Scotland taking on Morocco in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as one side wanted to take advantage of the other. While it was only a single goal that would decide the match, you saw a battle between two nations that have been fighting it out, trying to edge one another, but it gave us a heck of a contest. After the full 90 minutes were over, it would be the African country that would take the full three points as Morocco won by a final score of one goal to nil.

One goal was all it took

Just a single minute after the opening whistle blew, Morocco quickly got control of the ball and went to work for their first attacking run of the match. The ball was controlled by Morocco and moved up towards the far side. Brahim Diaz just sent a long ball to Ismael Saibari, onside, and quickly split the defenders. He took a quick strike and, somehow, in a tight angle, was able to score the goal and put Morocco ahead in the 2nd minute. The match turned so fast in such a short period of time that Scotland didn’t know what hit them.

Scotland quickly attacks to find a goal

After conceding so early in the match, Scotland got back into the match and started to make attacking runs to equalize the match, but every time they got close, either the defenders of Morocco made the stops, or the keeper, Yassine Bounou, made the saves to keep his side ahead on the scoreboard. Scotland is showing plenty of determination to get a goal and is making things uneasy for its opponents.

Possible penalty not called

Late in the match, Scotland was pushing for a big moment and wanted to get themselves into position to convert a chance. Scott McTominay was given the ball and led toward the area for him to create that chance. It looked as though he had three Moroccan defenders surrounding him and was tripped up inside the area for the penalty, but the referee said no and told him to get up. On replay, not a single foot from either defender touched McTominay or the ball to take him down, and an excellent no-call on the play in the 82nd minute. Morocco now has four points in the group, with Scotland at three. Brazil is facing Haiti in the other Group C match.
