Two Goals Each for Brobbey & Gakpo, Lead the Dutch to Victory over Sweden

The second match in Group F was a destruction for the Netherlands as they took on Sweden in NRG Stadium in Houston. From the opening whistle to the closing whistle, the Orange Lions took care of business and ripped the Swedes apart all over the pitch. After handling the Tunisians, the Scandinavian side just couldn’t handle the power and the precision of their opponents when they scored their goals, and cruised to the full three points as the final score of this contest was five goals to one.

Brian Brobbey gets the first two goals of the match

Striker Brian Brobbey came out like a man on a mission to take down Sweden and destroy the net as much as possible. He scored the first two goals of the match, and both were taken care of in the first 20 minutes after the opening whistle blew. The quick ball movement was fantastic to watch when Tijjani Reijnders received the ball and started to make the attacking run. He passed it to Cody Gakpo attacking down the far side, looking as if he wanted to score the goal himself, but he saw Brobbey racing down the middle, made a fabulous diagonal pass in front of Brobbey’s path, and opened the scoring in the 7th minute.

The second goal for Brobbey came along the near side of the pitch, as Denzel Dumfries received the ball and made his attacking run. When he saw Brobbey making his run down the middle again, a quick diagonal pass that went to the middle of the park, and all Brobbey did was put a quick touch on the ball and redirected it inside the far post in the 17th minute. The Netherlands were having an amazing start to the match, and they were hungry for more goals.

Cody Gakpo scores the next two goals for the Dutch

Since he arrived in the Dutch National Team, Cody Gakpo has been one of the best strikers in Europe and continues to show why he is a dangerous player on the pitch. He scored the next two goals of the match and was clinical on the pitch. The ball was played along the far side by Crysencio Summerville, with a quick pass to Dumfries, who saw him make a run toward the end line. When he made the diagonal pass, the ball went across the face of the net, but it was Gakpo who was on the back end of that run and side-footed it inside the net in the 47th minute.

His second goal of the game came during another attacking run up the pitch, and Summerville was leading the charge down the middle of the park. He saw Gakpo making his run toward the near side and passed it in front of him. Once Gakpo had the ball, he entered the area, made a quick cut to give himself some space, and took a hard shot and smashed it inside the near post in the 54th minute. Four straight goals from the Netherlands put Sweden in a big hole.

Summerville ends the nightmare for Sweden

After earning two assists in this match, Crysencio Summerville finally got his goal to end the match in style. The veteran Memphis Depay had the ball in the middle of the park and made the attacking run. He passed the ball into Summerville’s path, and within a matter of seconds, Summerville smashed it low and inside the near post to get the four-goal lead back and secured the full three points in the 89th minute to finish the job.

Sweden rips up the clean sheet, and nothing else

The only goal of the match for Sweden came in the 59th minute when Anthony Elanga scored to rip up the clean sheet. But after the fabulous performance in the last match against Tunisia, Sweden looked dreadful and just couldn’t stop the orange juggernaut that came at them, scoring goal after goal to put them out of their misery early and often. After securing their UEFA World Cup Playoff spot, after their Nations League campaign, and failing during UEFA World Cup Qualifying proper, many people who were questioning Sweden’s qualification to the World Cup just got bigger. But now they have one more match in the group stage, and that’s facing Japan, who will play Tunisia later in the day.
