The Pacific Northwest was ready to take in two teams that wanted to get off to a great start when Belgium took on Egypt. Everyone in Seattle is excited and ready to see these players from Europe and Africa fight for the three points and earn a strong performance. After the 90 minutes were up, both sides agreed that they had given it their all and left the fans to shake hands with one another as this one ended in a one-goal draw.
A thunderstrike gives the Egyptians the lead
It was an amazing shot that smashed the back of the net, and many thought it was going to come down. But when Emam Ashour got the ball from the far side of the pitch. He turned around and scored inside the near post to beat Thibault Courtois in the 20th minute to give the Pharaohs the lead. It was a well-worked goal when they brought the attack up from the far side of the pitch, and how the strike was delivered was amazing.
Coiurtois keeps Belgium in the match
Throughout the match, Belgium was down by a goal; their world-class goalkeeper, Thibault Courtois, stood on his head and made sure to keep his side from being down by a goal. He made several strong saves, either diving to his right or being in position to make the save or to prevent a chance from being created. Once the referee blew his whistle for halftime, that’s when head coach Rudi Garcia started to calculate substitutions to try and level the match up.
The magic of Romelu Lukaku
Having the leading goal scorer of Belgium Football in Romelu Lukaku on the team means you can rely on him to make something happen. He came on as a second half substitute in the 64th minute. All of a sudden, within seconds, Lukaku is making a run with two Egyptian defenders on him, the ball is coming from the far side of the pitch, and it’s crossed inside the area, and Lukaku forces Mohamed Hany to get his left boot on the ball and puts it inside his own net in the 65th minute. Just Lukaku’s presence alone gave Egypt fits and worry to force them to earn an own goal.
Belgium & Egypt shared the points and ended their match in a one-goal draw, hoping to get back into the swing of things
