This was supposed to be the greatest matchup the FIFA Club World Cup was going to have. A perennial powerhouse in La Liga’s Real Madrid, taking on the new powerhouse side in the current European Cup winners, Paris Saint-Germain of French Ligue 1. From the opening minute to the last, it was no contest as the Parisian Club destroyed Real Madrid by a final score of four goals to nil.
Fabian Ruiz scored a brace as he was deadly inside the area. His first goal came in the sixth minute, as PSG had control of the ball. Desire Doue, along the near side, had the ball and tried to make a pass, while getting tackled down. Ousmane Dembele ran toward it, stole it, and got taken down by Thibault Courtois. While Referee Szymon Marciniak allowed advantage, that gave Fabian Ruiz the chance to pounce and score.
Ruiz’s second goal of the match came in the 24th minute, as PSG continued their dominance in the match. Dembele in the midfield made a brilliant pass to spring Achraf Hakimi into an attacking run down the nearside. As he got closer to the area, Hakimi crossed the ball inside the area as Ruiz came in as the trailer. While the Madrid defender did try to disrupt him, Ruiz still got the ball and smashed it in side the near post.

In the 9th minute, Dembele finally got his goal in this semi-final matchup. Careless passing by Real Madrid gave Dembele the chance to stalk the ball like it was prey, and when he caught up to the last defender, he stole it from his boot. A free chance attacking the net and within the blink of an eye, Dembele powers his shot past Courtois, and into celebration mode, he went.

Throughout the rest of the match, Real Madrid couldn’t break through PSG’s defense, and when they did have a chance on frame, the shot wasn’t threatening enough for Gianluigi Donnarumma to make a difficult save. His afternoon was easy and simple. Not once did he break a sweat inside his area, and Goncalo Ramos scored the final goal of the match in the 87th minute and celebrated with his tribute to Diogo Jota.

Over 60,000 Real Madrid fans came to invade MetLife Stadium, and are going to fly back home to Madrid in anger. For me, this compares to an NFL game at that same stadium in the 2019 season when the New York Jets were invaded by the visiting fans of the Oakland Raiders, who took over the Stadium and saw the Jets destroy them by the final score of 34-3.

But the FIFA Club World Cup Championship Final is all set. It will be England’s Premier League side, Chelsea, taking on France’s Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 13th at 3:00 PM EDT – 12:00 PM PDT. Watch it on either DAZN online or on linear television on TBS.
