The World Cup Draw Has Finally Happened, The Twleve Groups are filled

Forty two nations and six playoff potential winners have been placed in twelve groups

Washington, D.C.- The 2026 FIFA World Cup Draw has finally happened as the countries that have qualified, along with six potential playoff winners from UEFA and the intercontinental Playoffs, will battle it out for the chance when the tournament begins next summer, as it was held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in our Nation’s Capital this past Friday Afternoon, December 5th

Musical performers

It started with Maestro Andrea Bocelli as he sang one of his favorite pieces to get the crowd ready for the afternoon. Later on, British pop artist Robbie Williams and former lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger, joined in a duet after a segment featuring FIFA President Gianni Infantino with President Donald Trump.

Before the actual draw started, former Front Woman of the Fugees, Lauryn Hill, came out to sing some songs and a former number one hit, along with her two sons Joshua and John Marley. At the end of the draw, the 70s & 80s band the Village People finished it off with their famous song Y.M.C.A. to the audience.

Early Draw for the host teams

In a twist to how the draw is normally done, FIFA President Gianni Infantino invited Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and President Trump to their respective pots with eight tiny balls each. Infantino also stood at one of the pots. Each political leader took their turn to stick their hands into their respective pots and pulled out a ball that had their country’s name in it after unlocking them.

A wonderful moment for the tri-host nations’ leaders to be given a moment for a chance at their own participation in the draw. Normally, it would’ve been done with the rest of the field in Pot 1, but this time that wasn’t the case. Mexico was automatically placed in Group A1, Canada was automatically placed in Group B1, and the USA was automatically placed in Group D1.

The hosts

Hosting the event are former fashion supermodel and America’s Got Talent Judge Heidi Klum and comedian and actor Kevin Hart. As this was Klum’s second time as a host for a World Cup Draw, this was Hart’s first time as a host in such a glorified event. Both did a good job, and Hart never made it feel awkward after his last time informing the football supporters of where the matches would be played in the three countries hosting the tournament.

The Draw assistants and the Conductors

Conducting the Draw at the big FIFA Table was former England International defender Rio Ferdinand, along with broadcaster Samantha Johnson, as they were placing the teams drawn from the four pots. Standing at each pot were four current or former professional athletes from the four major sporting leagues.

Seven-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady stood at Pot 1, Four-time NBA Champion Shaquille O’Neal stood at Pot 2, Current New York Yankees Captain and Right Fielder Aaron Judge stood at Pot 3, and finally, four-time Stanley Cup Champion and Canadian Hockey Legend Wayne Gretzky stood at Pot 4.

The pulling of the balls in all four pots

With the new method of selecting which teams will be placed in certain positions in all 12 groups, that means the pots for the group placements have now been removed. But keeping with teams within the same confederation not being in the same group or groups, except UEFA, did continue on. Now with the new 48-team format, here are the 12 groups for this coming summer’s tournament

B1 CANADA, B2 UEFA PLAYOFF A WINNER OF ITALY, NORTHERN IRELAND, WALES, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA, B3 QATAR, SWITZERLAND

GROUP C:

C1 BRAZIL, C2 MOROCCO, C3 HAITI. C4 SCOTLAND

GROUP D:

D1 USA, D2 PARAGUAY, D3 AUSTRALIA, D4 UEFA PLAYOFF C WINNER OF TURKIYE, ROMANIA, SLOVAKIA, KOSOVO

GROUP E:

E1 GERMANY, E2 CURACAO, E3 IVORY COAST, E4 ECUADOR
