Magical start and never lost the lead throughout the match
Cortina Bay, Italy- After getting pummeled by the Swiss and the Canadians, the U.S. Men’s Curling Team was ready to face their next match in round-robin play, taking on Germany, which at the time had a record of 2- 1 in three games. They had a fantastic start and continued forward all match long. While Germany grabbed a point here and there, they couldn’t get a lead as the USA won with the final score of eight to six in nine ends.
Overview
Team USA used the sixth stone to knock out the German stone and was setting up a possible multi-point end. The Germans tried to reduce the damage in the house, but with the hammer, Daniel Casper sent it down to knock out the final German stone, and four stones in the house gave the USA a brilliant start to the match, and Casper put his hand to his ear to hear the American fans screaming for such a brilliant start.
Germany took two points in two ends, with a single point in the second, and another single point in the third, as the hammer for the USA had too much weight on the slow throw and missed landing on the button as well as hitting the German Stone. But they got a big two-point end in the fourth. With a stone in the eight-foot and the Germans with a stone inside the button, a big throw came.
As Casper delivered the hammer, it went all the way down the middle of the sheet. When the stone entered the house, it struck the German stone inside the button and knocked it out as the USA got two points and reclaimed the four-point lead. Casper once again celebrated winning the fourth end and wanted the cheers from the American fans who saw his team get the points.
Germany continued to pester the USA, as they earned single points in the fifth and sixth ends. The USA kept itself in front with a point as they knocked out the German stone on the right side of the eight-foot to make it seven-to-four. Germany was able to use their hammer from Marc Muskatewitz and take out two stones to get two points and cut the deficit to one. Another point for the USA in the ninth end to regain a two-point lead.
In the tenth, Germany tried to do a triple knock out on the USA, but only got two of the three as the third stone just remained inside the lower end of the eight- foot. On the eighth stone, Casper threw a fastball down the sheet and knocked out the seventh stone of Germany to force them to concede their hammer and the match. Back in the win column and evening their record at 2-2 in these Olympic Games in Curling.
