Couldn’t get anything going toward the last three ends
Cortina Bay, ITA- The U.S. Women’s Curling Team went to their second match of the day at the Olympic Curling house, as they were ready to face Sweden in the nightcap. While both sides fought hard to earn the points, Sweden took a commanding lead on the final three ends to win and put the USA in the loss column for the first time in these first two games, by a final score of nine to four.
Overview
After a scoreless first end, Sweden took a one-point lead in the second end, but the USA tied it and took the lead in the next two ends. Tabitha Peterson used the hammer to enter the four-foot to tie the match in the third end, then she used the last stone to get inside the button. While Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg used the hammer to attempt to knock the stone out, it stayed inside the four-foot and the three-to-two lead for the USA.
In the fifth end, Sweden retook the lead with a two-pointer as they used their timeout to form a plan. Used the hammer to gently slide it down the sheet in the middle and tapped their own stones to get inside the Button and the four-foot. Earned another point in the sixth endto make it four-to-two. Then, in the seventh end, the USA got a two-pointer as well. Going down the right side and curling inside the button with another stone inside the eight-foot.
From the eighth to the tenth end, it was all Sweden. Nicking a point here and there until the USA tried to clear the house, but their hammer didn’t make a dent, knocking out their own stones, and Sweden took the victory. Their next match will be against Canada, and you can watch it streaming on NBC’s Peacock app or website.
