A big double knockout in the Seventh end gets the win
Cortina Bay, ITA- The top two nations in North America battled on the curling sheet for their second day and third match against each other when Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin of the USA took on Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant of Canada. As both sides kept this contest close, it was taken late by the USA, and they remained undefeated by a final score of seven to five.
Overview
A tightly contested match as both Canada and the USA battled in the first six ends, tying each other at four apiece. The USA earned two points in the 2nd end and had a three-to-one lead after the third, but Canada pulled out two points of their own in the 4th end. The next two, both sides took a point that tied up the match.
In the 7th end, a mistake by Brett Gallant on his fourth stone put his team in peral leaving two of Canada’s stone wideopen for Korey Dropkin to deliver a big blow and knock out those two stones and clear the board. While Canada tried to minimize the points damage on their final stone, the USA slammed the hammer down and cleared that stone to take the full three points.
In the 8th and final end, Canada tried to maneuver to attempt a tie, but the USA’s strategy was to allow them as little as possible, as Canada earned a point and lost their first game of the round robin. Team USA is now undefeated in its first three matches and has looked confident since the winter games began.
NOTE: Rapper Snoop Dogg was in attendance for this curling match and was sitting next to Korey Dropkin’s mother, while wearing a jacket with the faces of Thiesse and Dropkin printed on it. Snoop Dogg is back with NBC, talking about the Olympics, and this time it’s for Mixed Doubles Curling.
