BOCA RATON, Fla. — Army West Point softball opened the 2026 season Friday morning at the FAU Paradise Classic, falling to Wisconsin 9–0 in five innings at FAU Softball Stadium.
The Badgers struck early with a four-run first, then kept adding pressure in the third and fourth to pull away. The Black Knights managed two hits but couldn’t cash in after putting two runners on in the second.
Game flow
First inning: Wisconsin jumps out fast
Wisconsin opened the scoring immediately, stringing together four hits and a walk to build a 4–0 lead. Army limited the damage with a key defensive relay — Ashton White and Sam Rodgers combined on a play at the plate to cut down a runner and prevent the inning from getting even bigger.
Second inning: Army’s first hits of 2026
Army’s best offensive chance came in the second. After two strikeouts, Breanna Coonfare delivered Army’s first hit of the season with a single to right. Sam Rodgers followed with a single, putting two aboard — but Wisconsin escaped the inning with a strikeout to strand both runners.
