Team USA with a strong performance to grab the victory
Cortina Bay, ITA- The team from Duluth, Minnesota, Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin, faced the couple of Briar Schwaller-Huerlimann and Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland. After earning a tough victory over Norway by a final score of eight to six in the morning, they took advantage of the several mistakes made from the middle ends of the match and are undefeated in two straight, with the final score, seven to four
Overview
After the first two ends of the match, the Swiss led two to one, but once the start of the third end began, that was the start of the downfall of the Schwaller couple, as they misread and misplayed several stones. That gave team Thiesse & Dropkin multiple chances to take advantage and score several two-point ends in the third, fourth, and sixth.
Multiple misses by the Swiss, either making poor sweeps to curl the stone, or a hard throw that completely missed the USA’s stones position on the button to give them two points in an end. Even if they did have a solid throw, the Swiss still made an error in judgment on how to get it in the middle of the button, and gave the USA an advantage, whether they had the hammer or not.
This wasn’t Yannick Schwaller’s match as he failed to make the throws when he needed them to count. Thiesse and Dropkin stuck to their game plan perfectly and positioned themselves to grab the points and the match, so they will be ready to go for their next doubles matches in another double header against Canada at 10:05 AM Eastern on NBC’s Peacock, and against Czechia at 2:35 PM Eastern on USA Network & Streaming on Peacock.
