The Czech’s were no match for the Cory’s
Cortina Bay, ITA- The second doubleheader in round robin play for Team USA as Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin took on Czechia’s Julie Zelingrova and Vit Chabicovsky for their fourth match in two days at the Curling House. After a fantastic start in the first three ends, Team USA was able to glide through the match, making many perfect moves to get the win at eight to one, ending it early.
Overview
Right from the start, Thiesse & Dropkin played their match perfectly against the Czech’s. Every throw of their stones in six ends of play pressured and put their opponents into a corner, and they wouldn’t let them out. Either removing their opponents’ stones or curling them inside the button with ease.
They earned five points in their first three ends. First end was using multiple guards until their final stone to try and take two, but Czechia knocked one out to only allow a point. But on the second end was the master stroke as Thiesse and Dropkin took advantage of the poor action of Zelingrova and Chabicovsky. The shot selection was correct, but not enough action to make it happen. Three points were awarded to Team USA.
In the third end, Czechia was trying to knock out all the stones inside the button on the hammer. But only took away one of the three. Two remained while Czechia had one, and it was a 5-0 lead after three. Even though Czechia did get a point in the fourth end, their match ended in regulation as the USA earned a point in the fifth, then a master stroke to get two points inside the button, and the hammer went harmlessly away as Zelingrova and Chabicovsky conceded the match.
