NEW YORK, NY – The New York Sirens are set to make history this Friday as they host their inaugural Unity Game of the 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season, spotlighting Hispanic Heritage Night at the heart of the celebration. This special event honors the rich traditions, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities to hockey and the vibrant New York/New Jersey region.
Pre-Game Programming
National Anthem Performance: The evening will begin with a stirring National Anthem performance by Mia Sanchez, whose artistry sets the tone for the celebration. Her presence grounds the night in representation, honoring the impact of Hispanic artists in sport and music.
Ceremonial Puck Drop: Puerto Rico 3×3 National Team: Three members of the Puerto Rico National Women’s Team—Jocelyn Modl, Estela Vazquez, and Melanie Summers—will perform the ceremonial puck drop, celebrating their achievement as IIHF 3×3 Gold Medalists. Their participation highlights the excellence, perseverance, and pride of Hispanic athletes in the global hockey community.
Mariachi Band Performance: As fans arrive, they’ll be welcomed by a pre-game performance from Mariachi Orión. The music, rooted in Mexican and Latin American culture, brings celebration, storytelling, and communal pride to the arena, setting an energetic tone before puck drop.

Cultural Symbol Stations: Interactive elements throughout the concourse—marigolds, castanets, and hand fans—invite fans to engage with the traditions of Hispanic heritage. Informational signage explains the cultural significance of each item, fostering learning and participation.

Raíces y Rutas (Roots & Routes) Interactive Map: A large map of Latin America and Spain will be displayed, inviting fans to place teal stickers for their roots or heritage, and orange stickers for places they dream of visiting. This visual storytelling activation celebrates the diverse backgrounds and aspirations of the Sirens community, reinforcing themes of belonging, movement, and connection.

Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors (HOLA): HOLA is dedicated to expanding the presence of Hispanic/Latin artists in entertainment and media through development, education, empowerment, and recognition. Under the leadership of Executive Director Pablo Andrade and Board Chair Paul Slee Rodriguez, HOLA’s priorities are education, diversity, and resource development, with a focus on authentic and informed representation of Latin culture in all media.
Puerto Rico Ice Hockey Association (PRIHA): PRIHA is the official governing body for ice and inline hockey in Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican diaspora. As a member of the IIHF and Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, PRIHA manages national teams and initiatives to grow the game and expand opportunities for Caribbean and Latin American athletes worldwide.
