New York Rides Osborne’s Heroics, Physical Edge, and Balanced Scoring to 4–3 Victory
Newark, NJ – The New York Sirens kicked off the new year in style, earning their third straight win with a 4–3 triumph over the Montréal Victoire at Prudential Center. Goaltender Kayle Osborne was sensational, making a season-high 42 saves to backstop the Sirens against a relentless Montréal attack that fired 45 shots on goal.
First Period: Fast Start, Physical Play, and Early Goals
Both teams came out flying, trading early shots as Kayle Osborne and Sandra Abstreiter took their places in net. Montréal’s Laura Stacey opened the scoring at 3:47, finishing a feed from Kati Tabin and Marie-Philip Poulin. The Sirens responded with physicality; Sarah Fillier and Kristýna Kaltounková each delivered key hits to set the tone. After a Montréal penalty to Stacey for hooking, the Sirens pressed on the power play but couldn’t convert. Anna Bargman broke through late in the period, spinning and firing from the slot for her first PWHL goal at 16:16, assisted by Cherkowski. Both teams finished the frame with double-digit hits and aggressive forechecking.
Second Period: Momentum Swings and Special Teams
The Sirens grabbed their first lead early in the second as Kristin O’Neill finished a Maddi Wheeler feed at 3:46. Montréal answered on the power play with Poulin’s one-timer at 6:37, tying the game. The period featured end-to-end action, with both teams trading shots. New York’s Kaltounková and Cherkowski tested Abstreiter, while Osborne denied Scamurra and Roque.
Midway through, Kaltounková slipped free and buried a cross-ice feed from O’Brien and Roese for her team-leading fifth goal. The Sirens’ defense blocked multiple chances, including key stops by Allyson Simpson and Jincy Roese. Hits remained heavy, with Lauren Bernard and Jaime Bourbonnais leading the way for New York.

Montréal pressed hard, outshooting New York and controlling faceoffs, but the Sirens’ defense held firm. Maja Nylen Persson and Anne Cherkowski added critical blocks. Physical play intensified, with Micah Zandee-Hart and Taylor Girard delivering big hits.
Montréal appeared to score on a Poulin deflection, but the goal was waved off for a high stick. With the extra attacker, Natálie Mlýnková tipped in a point shot with 25 seconds left to make it 4–3, but Osborne’s poise and the Sirens’ shot-blocking sealed the win.
