The defense did nothing to stop the Patriots
East Rutherford, NJ- The New York Jets returned to MetLife Stadium for their final home game of the 2025 season to take on the first-place New England Patriots. No matter what the Jets defense tried to do, nothing worked as the Patriots ran roughshod down the field in their first five possessions, scoring touchdowns and continuing to put them to the saw, slicing and dicing as the Patriots embarrassed the Jets by a final score of 42-10.
Drake Maye was relentless
When the Jets won the toss and deferred to the Patriots, that was the start of the downfall, as the Patriots marched down the field often and were barely stopped. In the first half, Drake May made four passing touchdowns to Austin Hooper, Rhamondre Stevenson, Stefon Diggs, and Hunter Henry. Stevenson also had a rushing touchdown for two in the first half.
Maye had his first five passing touchdown game when Efton Chisim III grabbed the ball inside the end zone in the third quarter. Tom Brady had five games in his career when he made five passing touchdowns in a single game.
Defense was a no-show
No matter how much you thought the defense was going to perform, they were solved very quickly. The Patriots’ offensive line gave great protection to Maye, and they gave him all the space he needed to find his players. When the Jets dialed up a blitz package, the Patriots snuffed it out and got an open receiver to go down the field.
Their tackling during runs was also nowhere to be found, as the running backs ran through the line of scrimmage with ease, putting the Jets on their heels. Even where there were moments the Jets might have finally stopped the Pats on third down, the Jets were beaten on fourth down to allow extended drives. New England went two for two on fourth down plays.
Brady Cook barely moved the ball
Outside of one drive that gave the Jets a 39 yard field goal by Nick Folk to avoid being shut out, the Jets failed to move the ball down the field to get more than one score. Passes were short of the first down marker, and the Jets were forced to punt. To start the third quarter, the Jets made two fake punts on the same drive. While they converted on the first one with Austin McNamara throwing the ball, the second one, while six yards away, was a direct snap, and the Patriots stopped it at the line of scrimmage.
Breece Hall’s first 1,000 yards rushing
For the first time in a decade, Breece Hall finally earned his first 1,000 yard rushing season. The last New York Jets running back to earn that distinct honor was Chris Ivory when Todd Bowles was the head coach of the Jets. Hopefully, Hall will be re-signed to remain on the Jets and continue his strong play as their top running back.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Breece Hall was able to break through the defense and ran it all the way into the end zone for a 59 yard rushing touchdown. A bright spot to a very bleak day for the Gang Green.

The worst loss of the season
There have been some bad losses this season. The Week 2 home game against the Buffalo Bills, the last two weeks on the road at the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the second half at the New Orleans Saints. But this game was a complete disaster from the start, all the way to the end. There were some moments, they might have looked good, but in the end, they couldn’t break through.
“Highly, highly disappointed in the way that we came out to allow this team to come out and score. I think about the first six drives. It was not good. Offensively, we were also stagnant. It will allow them to pressure the quarterback through another interception this game, which is not good. This is what we always talk about how.
We come out, and we play with effort. Today was probably the one time I felt like our effort wasn’t there. That’s good. I will want to be. And that’s just me, not BSing and you guys just being on this. I didn’t think the effort was where it needed to be.
We have to figure that out. We have one more showing, all right, against a good team, against a playoff team. And we have to get ourselves going, practice this week. And get ourselves going. That’s just about it. That’s what we have to do because today was definitely not good enough,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn
