Bad luck for the Rangers in all three periods
New York, NY- The New York Rangers returned to Madison Square Garden for their back to back games to face the Vancouver Canucks. Just when you thought they were going to have a better game, everything came crashing down once again as they were stopped by a goaltender who was excellent against them, and bad luck bites them in the backside as the Canucks defeat the Rangers three to nothing.
Picked off by the linesman
The Rangers got off to a great start, skating into the Canucks’ zone and putting pressure on Thatcher Demko. When the Canucks got possession of the puck, Elias Pettersson gave it to Brock Boeser down the near side and sent it down the boards. As Evander Kane was skating to retrieve the puck, Matthew Robertson was skating back to defend him.
When Robertson made his move to put a hit on Kane, linesman Devin Berg picked him off, allowing Kane to retrieve the puck and beat Jonathan Quick easily toward the inside of the far post. While Berg’s intentions were not to interfere with that play, he did skate in between Robertson and Kane to prevent the defensive play from happening at 1:46 of the first period.
It just squeaked by
Another moment for the Rangers as they were hammering shots at Demko. They were relentless in looking for the tying goal. But the Canucks got control of the puck, and Linus Karlsson sprung Liam Ohgren into a breakaway.
When he took the shot, Quick got his left pad on the puck, but not enough, as he deadened the shot, but it still slithered slowly inside the back post and completely over the goal line. Quick had no idea the puck went through him and went inside the net at 3:24 of the second period.
Demko was brilliant, and the empty net
Throughout the third period, the Rangers continued to play hard to get on the scoreboard. No matter how many times they took shots against the Canucks netminder, Thatcher Demko continued to play brilliantly and found ways to get his pads, blocker, and glove on the puck and kept it out. He stopped all 23 shots.
While on the power play, the Rangers pulled quick and brought out the extra attacker. That’s when the Canucks Conor Garland was able to get a hold of the puck, flipped it out of his zone harmlessly, but then it slid harmfully into the empty net, and the Canucks got the victory at MSG.
Mika returns from suspension, but not enough
After serving his one-game team suspension, Mika Zibanejad was back on the ice, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Rangers couldn’t do anything with the puck. They played a solid game, but when those moments come at you, and everything goes against you. You feel as though nothing will go your way.
