Lost the lead, but gained a point
Jacksonville, FL- Fort Lauderdale United returned from the international break to get ready for their return trip to Jacksonville, Florida, and face Sporting Jax. Last time they fell to their Northeastern Florida rivals, but this time they would take a point home as the match ended in a one-goal draw.
Going short and taking the lead
No scoring in the first half, but late in the second half, Fort Lauderdale got their goal. As they set up at the far corner, they went short. The ball was passed up, then crossed inside the area. The ball took a bit of a deflection, but no Jacksonville defender got control of the ball. That’s when Kelly Van Treeck jumped at it and punched it home in the 74th minute
The equalizer came later
Fort Lauderdale would play some head games with the ball, but they couldn’t get it out of their side of the pitch. It was corralled by the wiger on the near side. She delivered a cross that was shot right at Bella Hara and made the save. But the rebound was eventually poked home by Katrine Sullivan as she equalized in the 89th minute.
A solid road point
While it was tough dropping two, for Fort Lauderdale United, this was a point they needed to keep things going in their Gainbridge Super League season. Right now, they are one point outside of the top four to make the playoffs. It’s getting toward the middle of the season, but right now, things are still looking good for that push to the playoffs.
Fort Lauderdale United’s next match in the 2025-26 USL Gainbridge Super League season is back home at Beyond Bancard Field as they face the Spokane Zephyer FC on Saturday, December 20th at 7:30 PM. Get to the match or watch it live streaming on NBC Peacock.
