Road trip to North Florida didn’t go as planned
Jacksonville, FL – Fort Lauderdale United traveled to Northern Florida to take on Sporting Jax in the other Florida Darby in the Gainbridge Super League. While it was a tough match for the South Florida side, they unfortunately fell in this contest by a final score of two goals to nil, dropping points in the standings.
The ball bounced in
As Sporting Jax was attacking down the far side, a pass was made into the path of Paige Kenton. As Kenton was making a run, FTL Goalkeeper Bella Hara was coming off her line to cut down the angle, but when the ball was shot, it hit Hara, and the ball bounced toward the net and cradled inside the near post in the 33rd minute
Big blast goes in
Sporting Jax in the second half continued to attack and tried to find a second goal to add to their lead. When Ashlyn Puerta received the ball from her teammate, she just turned inside the Fort Lauderdale United area and lashed a big ball inside the net and torched it. The goal was scored in the 52nd minute.
Big penalty save
Fort Lauderdale kept playing and started to make a run toward the Sporting Jax net. In second half stoppage time, Kiara Locklear entered the area. She was taken down, and the referee blew the whistle and pointed to the spot. Locklear took the spot kick but was stopped; she got the rebound and was stopped again by Kaitlyn Parks. The final whistle blew, and it was all over.
“Tonight wasn’t good enough from us in any aspect. There’s no way around that. We’ll take it on the chin, review it honestly, and learn from it. A lot of what went wrong was self-inflicted, and we’re accountable for that. The best part is we have an immediate opportunity to respond when we face them again in Jacksonville in a couple of weeks,” said Head Coach Ali Rogers.
Fort Lauderdale United will return to Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of Northern Florida on Saturday, December 13th, at 7:30 PM. You can watch the match streaming on NBC’s Peacock app or website.
