Lionel Messi and friends win their first League championship
Fort Lauderdale, FL- The 2025 MLS Cup Final was held at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as the Eastern Conference Champion Inter Miami faced the Western Conference Champion Vancouver Whitecaps. With 1,500 visiting Vancouvites making the trip to South Florida, it was a competitive final. At the end of the 90 minutes, the man who has won it all for Barcelona, PSG, and Argentina, has now done it for Inter Miami with a three goals to one victory and an MLS Cup Championship.
Vancouver helps out Miami
As the ball was in midfield, Lionel Messi got control of the ball and started to move it up. He made a nice pass along the near side toward Tadeo Allende as he was making a run toward the net. As he got inside the area, Allende made a pass, but it went toward the defender Édier Ocampo. It went off his left foot and accidentally into his own net to give Miami the early lead in the 8th minute.
The Whitecaps got their equalizer
The Whitecaps were knocking on the door after the own goal, and they kept pestering Miami. They finally hit paydirt at the hour mark when Emmanuel Sabbi was along the near side touchline, found Brian White at the edge of the Miami area. He laid it off toward the far side, as Ali Ahmed trailed the play, took a hard shot on frame. The ball hit Rios Novo, then bounced over him and into the back of the net.
Double Doink & Triple Doink
The Whitecaps had another opportunity to get a goal and the lead. Two minutes later, it was the Whitecaps making a run from the far side, and Sabbi was on his horse to make it happen. When he just entered the area, he unleashed a big shot and nailed both posts, got the rebound and hit the far post, then out for a goal kick. Oh, so close to taking the lead.
Caught sleeping, then got scored on
The Whitecaps had possession on their side of the pitch, a bit of laligagging, which meant for Messi to take advantage and steal it away. And steal the ball he did. Making an attacking run, he finds his Argentine National Teammate Rodrigo De Paul. He gets to the far side of the area, unleashes a diagonal shot to beat Takaoka, and splashes the inside of the side netting in the 71st minute.
The last goal and the Championship
In side second half stoppage time, Inter Miami wanted to put the final nail in the coffin, and did so with another assist from the main man himself. Jordi Alba gets control of the ball, finds Messi at the center circle, who moves it ahead. Makes a great pass to Allende, making a run and all alone for a breakaway, tucked it in past Takaoka, and scored in the sixth minute of seven in second half stoppage time.
Messi is adding to his trophy case
So many titles in Spain with 10 La Liga titles, seven Copa Del Rey’s, seven Spanish Super Copas, four UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, Three FIFA Club World Cups, then two French Ligue 1 Titles, a Trophee des Champions title, and now an MLS Cup Championship to go along with these tropheys is just amazing to see.
