Miami Beach, FL- On the first day of Soccerex, the second session was hosted by MTR7. The company is a specialist and world leader in sports entertainment, the soccer legends niche. When you watch these past matches from the most famous matches in club or international history, you must pay attention to who is on the pitch, even though they may not play as they used to anymore. They have been a part of the many FC Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid testimonial matches we have seen on YouTube or on ESPN.
“I’m here representing MTR7, who is the leading company of the Legends game all around the world. The company did several projects in Israel, in Europe, in South America, and now we are coming to America with a big announcement. A match between Brazil and the USA will happen next year in Austin, Texas. It will be an amazing rematch of the 1994 World Cup match that kicked off the soccer here in the US, so the legends are coming back to the field next year in Austin, on April 4th, to play an amazing match and bring back that spirit of love to soccer,” said Diogo Kotscho
USA Vs. Brazil is coming to Austin
Coming to the Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, April 4th, will be the World Cup Teams from the 1994 World Cup Round of 16 match when the USA took on Brazil at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. These men who started this amazing run and led to the birth of Major League Soccer will be lacing up their boots once again for a legends match against those players from Brazil that defeated them one goal to nil, down to ten men.
Hoping to see the 1994 World Cup Team again
How great would it be to see Tony Meola, John Harkes, Tab Ramos, Eric Wynalda, Alexi Lalas, Marcelo Balboa, Paul Caligiuri, Thomas Dooley, and the many others who wore those Blue jerseys with the white stars fighting to earn points and get out of the group that had Switzerland, Colombia, and Romania. Advancing as one of the best four of six third-place finishers, and faced Brazil in the Round of 16 match.
The match
In this match, the USA looked prepared and ready. Brazil was taking on a lot of pressure from the host nation and tried their best to defend the Americans, until that one moment put the crowd into a hush. Defender Leonardo threw an elbow at the head of Kearny, New Jersey attacking Midfielder, Tab Ramos, that caused a fracture in his skull.
Leonardo was shown a straight red card, and Brazil was down to ten men the entire match. Ramos was stretched off and subbed out for that horrible action. Leonardo was suspended for the entire tournament. Even with the man advantage, the USA couldn’t dent Brazil’s net, and then in the 72nd minute, Bebeto scored the match-winner at the Rose Bowl.
The aftermath
While the documentary of the Million Dollar Goal on CBS Paramount+ was the start of the game, getting on the sports map of our nation, those four games helped launch the start of Major League Soccer two years later. Meola and Ramos went to the NY/NJ MetroStars, Lalas went to the New England Revolution, Harkes went to DC United, Balboa went to the Colorado Rapids, Dooley to the Columbus Crew, Caligiuri to the Galaxy, and Wynalda went to the San Jose Clash.
Panelists from Brazil
Two members of the 1994 Brazil World Cup Team were Goncalo and Emerson, talking to the crowd, listening in on the session. “So, in 1994, Brazil against the United States, we won 1-0, and right now we have another opportunity with the same players, most of the players, to play this game again. Let’s see what will happen, you know, but it will be a very nice opportunity to be with this guy again,” said Goncalo
“First of all, really excited and thankful for being here, excited to wear the Brazilian jersey one more time. They’ve been doing, as Diogo was mentioning, games around the world, but especially playing again in the US, where Brazil lifted the FIFA World Cup in 1994. It’s definitely exciting, and as Gonçalo was saying, maybe a revenge for the teams that, you know, you got beaten. Yes, so it will be a warm-up, you know, for the World Cup that is coming, but it’s always a pleasure too,” said Emerson
