A poor decision on 4th and two led to the Jets’ ninth loss of the season
Baltimore, MD- The New York Jets went down I-95 to face a Baltimore Ravens side that was limping into the game and looked lethargic at the start. A strong defensive game in the first half and a lead. But when the second half began, the Ravens made the adjustments, and a poor decision by Head Coach Aaron Glenn led to another loss as the Jets fell, with the final score being 23-17.
Keeping Derrick Henry contained
The Jets did a wonderful job of keeping dangerous running back Derrick Henry contained, as he never had a strong run from the line of scrimmage. There were a few times Henry was stopped for a single yard or no yards at all. The defense only allowed 64 yards rushing from Henry, even if two of those carries were for touchdowns.
Lamar Jackson wasn’t at his best
When you face Lamar Jackson, you face a dual threat. Either as a competent pocket passer or as an elite runner. While he did make some throws toward the back end of the second half, Jackson didn’t look like himself and showed uncertainty. Still recovering from his injuries, the Jets found ways to keep him from being dangerous, and he was sacked once.

Jets’ first half was strong
While there were times the Jets couldn’t move the ball on offense, their defense looked fantastic. Stopping the run at every chance they had, knocking down balls, forcing incompletes, and confusing Lamar Jackson when he tried to run with the ball. A 13 yard John Metchie catch and run touchdown gave the Jets a lead late in the half, before giving up the field goal to the Ravens.
Ravens improved to start the second half
The Ravens went into the locker room at halftime with a pep talk and made some adjustments to their game. They were able to march down the field and score a two yard rushing touchdown by Derrick Henry to take the 10-7 lead. At the same time, the officials didn’t allow the Jets to make their substitutions properly and allowed the quick snap by Baltimore to take the lead.
The critical play call
In the third quarter, the Jets started on their own 40 yard line when the kickoff didn’t reach the landing zone. They attempted to get the first down, but were short by two yards. Behind the 50 yard line and on fourth down, Glenn made the call to go for it, but the pass was incomplete to John Metchie. Another mistake from Aaron Glenn was not to punt the ball and force the Ravens back to their endzone.
Ravens taking advantage
The Ravens once again took advantage of their situation and marched down the field to get a touchdown. Another critical call when Tony Adams was called for Pass Interference, at the Jets’ two yard line, even when the ball was uncatchable. Then they held the Ravens till fourth and goal. That’s when Henry was able to get another two yard run and a two score lead.

Hope came and then disappeared
The Jets trailed by ten, and they were making a big run in the fourth quarter, attempting to cut their deficit to a once score game again. Breece Hall made several big runs, but on the second run, getting closer to the endzone, he was stripped of the ball and fumbled it at the Ravens’ two yard line, which was recovered by the Ravens at their three yard line. From that point on, the game was over.
Some positives
Wide Receivers John Metchie & Adonai Mitchell looked good in this game and made several solid catches to advance the ball. Metchie made six receptions for 65 yards, and Mitchell made two receptions for 42 yards. The offensive line keeps improving with both bookend tackles in Armand Membou and Olu Fashanu. This should bode well for next season when Garrett Wilson is healthy for a full season.

Tyrod Taylor had a good game
Tyrod Taylor had all day to throw the ball. His offensive line protected him well, and he made runs when he had to. Completed 17 passes out of 22 attempts for 222 yards, was sacked three times, and had one interception that came late in the game when it didn’t matter. Taylor gave confidence to his wide receiver core, including finding Tight End Mason Taylor a few times.
The result
At the end of the game, the Jets are 2-9. They played a fabulous first half, and then couldn’t get down the field to add to their ten points. They defended strongly, but as always, the killer penalties continued to beat them up; another poor decision by the head coach, and they lost this game. The hope now is to improve and be ready for next week during Thanksgiving Weekend.
“The run game in the past came together to get exactly what we want. But I just think, from the naked eye watching, I thought Tyrod did a really good job. I mean, he was getting us in and out of the huddle. Getting some plays that we need to get to. He found some open receivers. I thought the two receivers, two new guys that we brought in, Mechie and AD, I thought those guys did a hell of a job also.
But as we practice, man, it just gives us more time for us to gel with Mason and Ruck and all those guys, Brees. Thank you. Isaiah, all those guys have to come together and understand how Tyrod likes to play. And that continuity will serve us well as long as we continue to play together like that,” said Aaron Glenn
