A mental error by the Browns’ Defense Put the Jets into Victory Formation
East Rutherford, NJ- The New York Jets, on a somber Sunday, mourned the loss of Nick Mangold. They came out to MetLife Stadium to face the Cleveland Browns. They attempted to earn their second win of the season, and when these two teams get together, weird moments happen. The Jets defeated the Browns by a final score of 27-20.
Neutral Zone Infraction
The Jets had the final possession of the game at midfield. It was 4th & 4 at the Jets’ 49-yard line. They tried to make the Browns’ defense jump offside while the clock was running down. Defensive End Cameron Thomas took the bait, got the flag for the neutral zone infraction, and the Jets inside the final minute of the game went toward victory formation.
Newangwu goes the distance
After the Browns took the lead with a touchdown, the Jets received the kickoff. Kene Nwangwu got the ball and went down the middle, broke through the Browns’ kickoff defensive team, and headed for paydirt as he converted his first kickoff return touchdown this season, and his second as a member of the Jets for 99 yards to tie the score.

Isaiah Williams returns a punt
After Nwangwu’s kickoff return touchdown, the Jets’ defense made a big stop on the Browns, forcing them to punt the ball. Isaiah Williams took the punt and went down the far sideline and was untouched heading to the end zone on a 74-yard Punt return Touchdown, giving the Jets their first lead of the game.

Breece Hall Takes the Lead
With the game tied at 17, the Jets were marching down the field. In the fourth quarter, Justin Fields and the offense finally contributed an offensive score as he dumped a short pass behind the line of scrimmage to Breece Hall, and out the door he went and was untouched as he dives into the end zone for a 42 yard catch and run to take the lead.
Defense gets multiple Sacks
The Jets had a consecutive multi-sack game; this time, they got six on Dillon Gabriel. Quincy Williams and Jermaine Johnson were a part of the sack fest and forced a loss of 47 yards to put the Browns back behind the line of scrimmage.
Banner Game for Will McDonald
Will McDonald continues to have a solid career as a pass rusher for the Jets. He made four of the six sacks the Jets got on Gabriel. He also earned 32 of the 47 yards that were lost by the Browns. McDonald has also tied a Jets record for most sacks in a game, tying John Abraham and a member of the NY Sack Exchange, Mark Gastineau.

Both men have had a four-sack game twice in their careers. Gastineau earned his first on November 6th, 1983, and his second on September 2nd, 1984. Abraham earned his first on November 4th, 2001, and his second on October 26th, 2003.
A winning streak
The Jets are now on a two-game winning streak, but the celebrations won’t last long. The Jets will travel up Interstate 95 as they will take on the first-place AFC East New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football, which you can watch on Amazon Prime.
“When it comes to the game, tough, hard-fought game, give those guys a lot of credit, which I know Coach Stefanski and he does a really good job with those guys. And I know that he’s trying to navigate through the quarterback situation that he has going on. But when it comes to our guys, man, just all during the week, man, so much noise.
It’s really not by those guys in the locker room. Those guys just stay focused; they let everything go, just block all that crap out, man. They just go and play football. One thing that we’re trying to do is build something, and I’ve said this from the beginning, there has to be a foundation that has to be set.
And man, these guys understand that; we’re trying to build that foundation and get to where it’s stable because I truly believe that once you build a foundation, if it’s truly stable, then you can sustain winning, and that’s what we’re trying to accomplish And listen, we know we have a long way to go, and we have a lot of work to do, you know, on both sides of the ball.
But I’ll tell you what, our special teams really gave us a spark today, and that’s what we need. And that’s what I talk about: playing complementary football when all three phases can go out there and play. But today was really supportive football again, and listen, our special teams did a hell of a job. So I give a lot of credit to Coach Banjo and Coach O’Day; man, it was special to see both of those guys.
Because both of those guys have had some issues, you know, up to this point with Kanae, with some of his injuries in I-3, what he happened early in the season. And he’s just turned himself around, and that’s the power of believing in your players. And don’t let the noise that everybody wants to talk about, about these guys, let that bother you. Just trust those guys and build those guys up, and keep developing those guys,” said Head Coach Aaron Glenn
The Jets honored Nick Mangold
Before the game, the Jets honored the memory of former Pro Bowl Center Nick Mangold as the Jets created a banner that went across the entire lower bowl of MetLife Stadium. Nick’s Wife and four children walked onto the field at the 50 yard line as they showed their appreciation to the fans.
