Paramaribo, Suriname- In a huge home match in World Cup Qualifying, Suriname had to take out El Salvador to get a stranglehold on the top spot in Group A, and move on to the final match of this window on Tuesday. They gave their home fans hope as they smashed the Salvadorians by a final score of four goals to nil.
Penalty for Suriname
The first goal of the match came from a call to the spot when there was a foul inside the penalty area, when Julio Sibrian fouled his man to give Suriname the chance to take the lead. Tjaronn Chery was given the ball and placed it on the spot. When the whistle blew, Chery smashed it inside the near post in the 44th minute.
Lucky bounce for Margaret
Suriname was forcing the issue against Suriname. They tried to make their opponents a bit nervous with the ball, but it finally happened when Richonell Margaret was given a lucky bounce off the Salvadorian defender at the far side and attacked the area. He got into a solid position to smash the ball into the back of the net in the 74th minute.
Second goal for Margaret
Two minutes later, Suriname went up two goals to nil. Ricigociano Haps attacked down the near side, getting a great ball. As he got close to the end line, Haps with a low pass across the area, sneaking in was Margaret, who caught the keeper napping and scored his second of the match in the 76th minute.
The final goal of the night
The fourth goal was a repeat of the third goal for Suriname. Jay-Roy Grot attacked down the near side, turned to his right, and went inside the area, then made a pass to the middle to find Dhoraso Klas as he scored in the middle of the park in the 83rd minute to put this one to bed.
Suriname is now one step away from qualification
This Dutch nation, located on the Northeast corner of South America, is now one positive performance away from punching its ticket to the World Cup. They are looking to clamp down on the top spot in Group A and join their parent country in the Netherlands. They face Guatemala on the road on Tuesday, November 18th.
