CONCACAF Announces Setup for Qualifying and their Main Tournament for the U-20 Championship

Details on the Qualifying groups, then the actual tournament for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup

Miami, FL- From the headquarters of the Confederation of CONCACAF (Confederation of North America, Central America, Caribbean Football), they have announced their plans to give 38 member nations their chance to make their attempts to reach several designations to get into their proper Under 20 tournament and then qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Qualifying format

34 nations will go through qualifying to reach the tournament proper. They will be separated into the six different pots. The first five will have six nations, while the sixth pot will only have two, based on their own Ranking system. The qualification matches will be played in three different countries. Costa Rica, Curacao, and Nicaragua.

The six pots

The teams are placed due to CONCACAF Participating Member Associations’ within the Confederation Rankings from August 5th of 2024. They will be placed in six different groups labeled A, B, C, D, E, and F. The Draw will be on Thursday, November 4th, at 11 AM on their YouTube Channel

The qualifying matches will be played from February 23rd through March 4th. The group winners advance to the main tournament.

POT 1: COSTA RICA, EL SALVADOR, CANADA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, HAITI, JAMAICA
POT 2: TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, NICARAGUA, CURACAO, ANTIGUA & BARBUDA, SURINAME, PUERTO RICO
POT 3: BERMUDA, ARUBA, SAINT KITTS & NEVIS, BELIZE, ST. LUCIA, GUYANA
POT 4: GRENADA, ST. VINCENT & GRENADINES, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS, CAYMAN ISLANDS, BARBADOS & MARTINIQUE
POT 5: DOMINICA, SAINT MARTIN, SINT MAARTEN, ANGUILLA, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, TURKS & CAICOS
POT 6: FRENCH GUIANA, BONAIRE

The 12 Team Championship will start in the summer

The Tournament proper will be played after the World Cup from July 25th through August 9th. These six nations have been given automatic bids. (1) U.S. Soccer, (2) Mexico, (3) Honduras, (4) Panama, (5) Cuba, (6) Guatemala

After round-robin play, the two top teams of each group and the two best third-place teams will advance to a Knockout Stage comprised of the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Final. 

Further Details on where the host country will be for the 12 Team Championship will be published at a later date. The previous tournament was held in Mexico.
