A brilliant defensive game gives the Rangers a shutout win
Vancouver, BC- The New York Rangers headed toward the Pacific Northwest to face the Vancouver Canucks for a big game in their second of four on this road trip. They came right out of the gate with a strong defensive game, while buzzing around the rink creating scoring chances. Finally, they were the ones to get a shutout victory as they defeated the Canucks by a final score of two to nothing.
Rangers finally score first
The visitors opened the scoring when Adam Fox sprung Mika Zibanejad down the rink into a two-on-one. He passed it to Will Cuylle, who passed it back, and Zibanejad took the shot and went into he near upper corner at 17:27 of the first period.
Sam Carrick gets the empty net
The Canucks pulled their goaltender to get the extra attacker and buzzed around the Rangers’ zone. As Alexis Lafreniere and Fox were along the far boards trying to move the puck out, it finally got to Sam Carrick. He got control of the puck and sent it from his own blue line all the way toward the empty net at 17:28 of the third period
Hard work and defense won the game
While there were moments, the Rangers had several strong scoring chances, but they couldn’t beat Thatcher Demko, as he stopped all but one of their pucks. But the Rangers limited the Cancuks’ chances and only gave them one shot, and never allowed them to recover for a rebound chance or a second and third chance to get a goal.
Jonathan Quick was solid
Goaltending was at a premium in the game, and Jonathan Quick did an amazing job stopping the Canucks from sniffing the net. Big glove snapping saves, flashing the pads, and when he stayed inside his crease, he made all the saves possible to earn his first shutout of the season and his 64th career shutout. It’s also his sixth shutout as a New York Ranger.
He made all 32 saves in his first shutout of the season, and their next game is back in Alberta province to face the Edmonton Oilers.
