A better performance in Western New York to get their first shutout of the season
Buffalo, NY-The New York Rangers knew they had to play better and get on the front foot to face an injured Buffalo Sabres side that is missing several players, including their starting goaltender, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. The Rangers finally broke into the scoreboard as they defeated the Sabres by a final score of four to nothing for their first shutout of the season.
Lafreniere Reaches to stuff it in
Artemi Panarin receives the puck at the near side, skates to the top of the Sabres zone. A quick shot that deflected off Vincent Trocheck, which slowed a bit for Alexis Lafreniere. He squeezed it through the left pad and the far post of Alex Lyon, but found a way to stuff in the loose puck at 11:43 of the first period.
Some Sauce from Soucy
Panarin once again is involved, chasing the puck into the Sabres Zone. At the far corner, he digs it out and passes to J.T. Miller, then he goes back to the far point at Will Borgen. A quick pass to the near point where Carson Soucy received it, skates to the near faceoff circle, and beats Lyon to the near post at 14:46 of the third period.
The Captain deflects it in
Lafreniere, down low in the far corner, passed the puck back to the far point to Braden Schneider. He delivers a shot that was deflected off a defender, then J.T. Miller got the shaft of his stick to knock the puck down and past Lyon at 17:11 of the third period.
Adam Fox Gets an Empty Net
As the Sabres pulled Alex Lyon for an extra attacker, the Rangers were able to get possession of the puck in their own zone. Sam Carrick feeds Adam Fox, and he sends it all the way to the empty net at 17:25 of the third period.
Adam Fox’s father-in-law is former NFL Defensive End Tim Green, who is suffering from ALS, will be helped. Every time Fox scores a goal, he will donate $1,023. If it’s an assist, he will donate $523 in honor of Green’s condition since he was diagnosed in 2016.
Will Borgen reaches a milestone
In his second game of the 2025/26 season, Will Borgen officially skated in his 300th career NHL Game. His family came to the KeyBank Center from Morehead, Minnesota.
Shesterkin gets his First Shutout of the season
Igor Shesterkin was rock solid once again, as he stopped all of Buffalo’s 37 Shots on goal to get the first win of the season. He stood tall in his crease during the second period as he was bombarded by the Sabres, but never flinched.
